Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle “Honey” Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Michelle “Honey” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company is Red Lotus Reads LLC.
Red: was my mom’s favorite color
Lotus: I love the symbolic meaning of the Lotus Flower
Reads: I’m a writer and author, and I’ve always loved to read.
Michelle “Honey” , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a self-published author of 7 books (3 fiction, 1 self-help, and 3 Children’s books).
I am an avid reader who always “wished” I could write a book. It didn’t seem that was something just anyone could start, so that goal became a buried treasure that happened to unlock itself in 2018. By 2019 I had published a 2 book series.
What sets me apart from others is my story. Yes, stories may be similar. However, no 2 stores are identical. Therefore, no one can tell my story.
I am most proud of myself for having the guts to start a new career at 45. I embrace my readers and the love they have for my writing. I am currently working on a new novel.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by joining Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I expanded my friend list to more than just personal friends, family, ex-co-workers, and old-school classmates.
If you’re just starting to build your social media presence, I suggest you keep everything mostly business and share just a little of your personal life for your fans/followers to know you are more than just your business.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Resilience! It takes a lot of resilience to write a story with the potential of NOBODY liking it. Feedback comes in positive and negative forms. I had to realize my writing is not for everyone, and that’s okay. Once you appeal to a target audience, entertain them, and remain true to your writing. Sometimes people will love your work because they understand who you are and what you stand for. Other times they just like the dam story!
