We were lucky to catch up with Michelle Goodson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve always been creative. I studied interior design in college. I designed my own clothing in High school. I crafted with my mom as a child. But the lightbulb came on when my daughter turned 3. I planned a Birthday Party and trained a young lady for the part of the princess entertainer. I created costumes, games, and activities for our party. My daughter was amazed by the Princess and the feedback from family and friends was all so positive. I knew I would love doing this for other people as well.

Michelle , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I love bringing fairytales to life for my customers. Many of the themes and ideas for our events and parties come from imaginary play with my own daughter. She’s an adult now but those early childhood moments inspired this business. My mom was a seamstress and made many of our costumes when we started. She taught me how to create costumes too. It’s been a family business built with love, literally built at the kitchen table and now occupying 1/4 of the house. I have employed a group of performers who love children. Some of them are teachers as well as actors. I am continuously learning the art of performing from them. I think what makes this company so great is the ability of the staff to learn from each other. All of us are required to keep an open mind and accept feedback. We learn from mishaps and celebrate the wins. These open minded collaborations help us us continue to grow our skills and provide better entertainment for our customers

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
We are pivoting now. 3 years ago we opened a party venue to add a service we thought would be needed in the community. The first 2 years were promising but the last 12 months we’ve been busier at in home events. We’ve always delivered entertainers to our customer’s doors and this is where we’re consistently earning. Now we’re taking all the services we had at our venue directly to the customers home as well.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the things we do at most events is a story time. We encourage children to read and use their imagination. Their little faces light up as they dive into a world of possibilities brought to them through reading and imaginative play. That’s the most satisfying and rewarding experience for me.
