We recently connected with Michelle Doeffinger and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I started my business in 2011 by volunteering social media management for several organizations and ministries, which gave me experience and connections to my community. It also began to build my brand as I considered consider turning my volunteerism into a business.

Michelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began volunteering for several organizations doing their social media and discovered that I enjoyed it. As time went on I considered what I might do as my youngest of four children graduated from homeschooling. I decided to turn my volunteerism into a business. That was in 2017 when I became official. I have now been in business for five years. December 2022 was my five-year anniversary.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Covid changed things for a lot of people and there were unfortunate stories of businesses closing their doors. However, I saw an uptick in some other industries and my own business saw a lot of changes as I served those businesses. The main change was a huge improvement for everyone’s brand. Doing videos. I began doing a lot more live and recorded videos on social media platforms, which helps to keep my brand, active and thriving and always providing value. It also connected me with more people. Intern, I have been and always do encourage my clients and others to share videos because it’s the best way for people to understand their brand and personal connection. So it was a permanent pivot.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe the strongest action I have taken in my business that has made the biggest impact on my brand is very simple. Offering value. Giving shout-outs. Interviewing business owners. Offering social media tips regularly through video and regular posts. Offer in value, build your reputation, and gives people more of a know-like-trust factor. It’s indirect marketing because I honestly enjoy sharing and giving. But it does pay back because it builds my reputation and authority in my industry.
