We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michelle Currier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michelle below.
Alright, Michelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
As a NYC ceramicist, my journey started with a vision to embody the city’s energy in pottery. After meticulous research and experimentation, I joined a studio in the heart of Greenwich Village, Manhattan called Greenwich House Pottery. Overcoming challenges from perfecting glaze formulas to navigating business logistics, I ultimately launched my creations, transforming a simple idea into a thriving business that reflects the essence of NYC through ceramics.

Michelle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Michelle Currier, a visionary ceramic artist based in the vibrant heart of New York City. My journey into the world of ceramics began with a deep appreciation for the harmony between form, function, and the inherent beauty of clay. With a dedication to craftsmanship and creativity, I handcraft each piece to not only enhance the aesthetic of our homes but also to serve a practical purpose in our everyday lives. Whether it’s rough stoneware or delicate porcelain, every creation is a unique reflection of my passion and commitment to the art form.
Drawing from my background in art education, with a BS from Central Connecticut University and an MS from the University of New England, I’m deeply passionate about teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. As an instructor at Greenwich House Pottery in the historic West Village of New York City, I have the privilege of inspiring and nurturing the next generation of ceramic artists.
What sets me apart is my unwavering dedication to craftsmanship, my commitment to education, and my ability to seamlessly blend artistic vision with practical functionality. Each piece I create tells a story and adds a touch of elegance to any space. I take immense pride in the fact that my work not only brings joy to those who own it but also serves as a testament to the rich artistic heritage of New York City.
I want potential clients and enthusiasts to know that when they acquire one of my pieces, they’re not just purchasing an object; they’re investing in a piece of art imbued with passion, skill, and a deep connection to the creative process. Whether you’re looking for a statement piece for your home or seeking to hone your own skills in pottery, I’m here to inspire and elevate your experience with ceramics.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media required consistency, authenticity, and engagement. I started by defining my brand identity and sharing content that showcased my ceramic artwork, creative process, and values. Consistent posting and high-quality visuals helped maintain audience interest, while engaging with comments and messages fostered genuine connections. Collaborating with others expanded my reach. For those starting out, I advise focusing on authenticity, patience, and consistent engagement with your audience. Stay true to your vision, adapt based on feedback, and don’t hesitate to experiment and evolve. Building a social media presence takes time and effort, so remain committed and genuine in your approach.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been word-of-mouth referrals and networking within the creative community. Satisfied clients who appreciate my work often recommend me to their friends, family, and colleagues, which has been instrumental in expanding my client base. Additionally, networking at industry events, art shows, and through collaborations with other artists and businesses has consistently brought in new opportunities and connections. Building genuine relationships and delivering high-quality work has been key in attracting new clients and fostering long-term partnerships.
