Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle Cox. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Michelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Catchy names are so important in all industries. I knew I had to have construction in the name. I also know psychologically, the hard K sound resonates. Next, what does construction do? At the very foundation of construction is building. Whether it is out, up, onto, under, over, building takes construction. To keep it ultra simple, I bought the rights to Construction Builds across the board years ago.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Story: After 15 years of owning a construction company and dealing with the stress that came with day to day management, I found myself constantly “Googling” to find the answers to a multitude of questions every week.
I would search for various types of sub-contractors, in and out of state. I would search for specialty materials and pay for items to be delivered from out of state with high delivery costs, only to find there was a supplier a few miles away. These searches took many of my productive hours and didn’t always yield the best response. I imagined what it would be like to find ALL items in one place… kind of like Amazon did for retail. As a result, I developed Construction Builds for ALL of day to day search, job costing and bidding needs.

What sets my company apart from others:
There are no other service apps doing this in the construction industry or sector.
I am most proud of several things:
I didn’t give up. Through a world wide pandemic, staffing shortages, doubters, I never quit.
I am proud this will have an impact on an entire industry well beyond my time on Earth.
I am proud I have taken on challenging jobs in both construction and tech to influence and change a huge, male dominated industry.
What I want fans to know about me:
I am human and make mistakes. I didn’t have a road map on how to build the perfect technology. My business model has evolved over years with a lot of educating myself, time, research, listening to needs of future customers. Perfection is an illusion and waiting to achieve this before moving forward with a business idea will rarely succeed. Meaning, waiting until everything is perfectly in place is going to fail. Waiting until there is enough money, time, the kids are grown up, all your goals are accomplished, whatever that story is in your mind, just do it. This world needs your ideas, needs your business, needs your input, needs your improvements, needs your talents, needs your gifts. I am looking forward to adding mine.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have lots of these!
2021 was a gauntlet of awful in my life. February 2021, life altering spinal injury where part of my spine was crushed in an accident. I also cracked my hip and tried to tear it off apparently with a labral tear. I was sledding off a mountain with my son and during a solo sled, I went over a 20′ embankment on a black diamond level slope, completely ruptured 5 discs, crushed my S1, tore my right hip, cracked my right hip and was paralyzed for a bit. I still deal with the pain a year later with extensive physical therapy, though is has improved.
June I had foot surgery. August I contracted covid, 17 days of fever, ER visit and 6 weeks of recovery. October, my mother died.
I never allowed sadness, depression, or pain to become my story of why I didn’t move forward. It was never an option for me. I have continued the path of ‘I haven’t come this far to only come this far’.
Believe it or not, after all of that, I am thankful for each happening. I learned how to improve my overall health after my injury. I learned that I had family and friends willing to help during my crisis and I didn’t have to take on the world alone. I learned it is ok to say yes to help. I learned that my greatest insecurities can serve me rather than hinder me.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I also have several of these, but the one that comes to mind strongest is this: I was told in the beginning of the concept of my business model that it would never see the light of day without an investor. There are several variables to this backstory, but the macro view picture is that it is never about resources as much as it IS about resourcefulness. I continued to become resourceful and continued to move forward. Once I made a decision didn’t come this far to only come this far, the more resourceful I became. This served me very well. While I am incredibly thankful to all those that have invested in small/startup businesses, never underestimate the power of being resourceful.
