We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michelle Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michelle below.
Michelle , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
As a business owner, I have the privilege of having autonomy over what I produce, package and provide to my clients. This independence has cultivated a level of happiness that I have never experienced while working a regular. Every time a thought of working a regular job enters my mind I become overwhelmed with the feeling of anxiety and imprisonment. The knowledge of how I would lose my freedom over the way I administered services to my clients if I worked for another frighten me. I use this fear to fuel my desire to scale my business so I can continue to provide the quality of services my clients need and deserve.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, over 27 years ago, I faced the unpredictability of a chronic illness; navigating its physical and emotional complexities. Through this personal experience I learned to unlock the resilience that lies within all of us and I stand as living proof that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to cultivate inner peace, find inspiration, and create a life that transcends limitations.
I coupled my experience with MS and my professional expertise to create a transformative mental wellness system that empower individuals to rise above their circumstances, to find strength in vulnerability, and to rewrite their narratives with resilience, grace, and authenticity. This system is an individual journey where the power of the human spirit intertwines with the healing nature of poetry. I assist individuals with expressing their innermost thoughts and feelings, through poetry and narrative writing, to help them uncover new perspectives, find solace, cultivate self-care practices, and develop sustainable strategies for maintaining mental wellness. Also, I teach Anger Management Classes to assist individuals with managing their responses to anger.
I hold a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from Rutgers University. I am credentialed as an, Anger Management Specialist-I (CAMS-I), Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner, Domestic Violence Specialist-I (CDVS-I), Certified Mental Health Coach and Poetry Therapy Practitioner(intern). I am also trained in several specialties such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma and Crisis Intervention. I am a member of the National Anger Management Association, a member of the National Association for Poetry Therapy and a MS Activist for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
I am the Vice President of Empowerment Thru Spoken Word Poetry-TAPN2U “A Help to Heal” 501©3 nonprofit organization. I am an author and my writings and poetry has appeared in several books, such as Rewrites, Universal Verses Anthology and W.O.W Anthology.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I harness the power of workshops as a highly effective strategy for growing my clientele and making a positive impact. Through these transformative gatherings, I create a nurturing space where individuals can explore their emotions, discover their inner strength, and embark on a journey of healing and personal growth. By carefully designing each workshop to cater to different needs and age groups, I provide a platform for attendees to engage in expressive writing exercises, guided poetry prompts, and meaningful group discussions. The workshops not only serve as a gateway to self-discovery but also foster a sense of community and connection among participants. Through the genuine transformations that occur within these workshops, I am able to build trust, establish credibility, and attract individuals who are seeking guidance, support, and a path towards emotional well-being.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Workshops are not only my most effective strategy for attracting clients, but they have also been my best source for new clients. Once client attend my workshop, they are more likely to attend my other workshops and/or work with me individually.
