We recently connected with Michelle and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle, appreciate you joining us today. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
When the world shut down during COVID, like so many others, I found myself facing uncertainty. I was a single mom just trying to make ends meet, and I decided to take a leap of faith by turning a hobby I loved into something more—something that could provide for me and my daughter. It started small, but I poured my heart into it, and slowly, my business began to grow.
Throughout it all, my best friend Chaily G was my biggest supporter. He constantly encouraged me, reminded me of my worth, and believed in my vision even when I doubted myself. One day, he told me I should make it official and get my LLC. I was still struggling financially at the time, so I hesitated. That’s when he did the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me—he surprised me by paying for the entire cost of my LLC.
In that moment, I was overwhelmed with emotion—grateful, supported, and seen. It wasn’t just about the money; it was the belief he had in me and my dream. That gesture gave me the push I needed to fully commit to my business, and it’s something I’ve carried with me every day since. For the past seven years, Chaily has continued to show up for me in ways I’ll never forget, but that one act of kindness was the foundation of everything I’ve built.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m 35 years old, a proud mom to a 13-year-old daughter, and a lifelong creative. I’ve always had a passion for creating—from designing, reading, and singing to just finding new ways to express myself. My creative journey started way back in middle school when I got my hands on a camcorder and began editing videos on VHS tapes. By high school, I was a four-year member of the dance team, and outside of school, I dove into the early days of the internet, learning basic coding on platforms like MySpace and BlackPlanet. Looking back, I realize I’ve always been drawn to bringing ideas to life.
In 2020, when the world changed during the pandemic, I decided to take my creativity seriously and turn my hobby into a business. That’s when I started learning new skills and sharpening old ones—and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I specialize in branding and design, creating logos, business cards, flyers, labels, and more for entrepreneurs and small businesses. I also offer social media management services to help brands stay visible, consistent, and connected to their audiences online.
What sets me apart is not just my design work, but the way I connect with my clients. I know how personal and important someone’s brand is to them, and I treat every project with care and intention. I’m passionate about helping people bring their visions to life and grow with confidence.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how much my brand has grown over the past five years. It’s been an incredible journey, filled with learning, evolving, and building something I truly love. I want potential clients and followers to know that when you work with me, you’re not just getting a service—you’re getting someone who genuinely cares about your success. I’m here to help make your brand unforgettable.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn is that you can’t be nice to everyone—at least not at the expense of your boundaries or your business. In the beginning, I wanted to be accommodating and understanding, especially since I knew what it felt like to start from the ground up. There were times I waived deposits, accepted IOUs, or extended extra grace, thinking it would build trust or loyalty.
Unfortunately, I ended up being taken advantage of more than once. Clients would disappear without paying, delay final payments, or treat my time and work as if it had no value. It was a hard but necessary wake-up call.
Now, I’m very clear and firm about my deposit policy and boundaries. I’ve learned that protecting my business doesn’t make me mean—it makes me professional. And the clients who truly value my work never have a problem with that.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my reputation in this industry has been built on four key pillars: networking, consistency, communication, and professionalism. From day one, I made it a priority to not only deliver quality work but to also be someone clients felt comfortable reaching out to and working with.
I have an open-door policy and never leave clients waiting long for a response. I ask questions, encourage them to ask their own, and make sure we’re always on the same page. I genuinely enjoy having real conversations with my clients because I’m human before anything else—but at the same time, I always ensure that every job is handled with the highest level of professionalism. That balance has helped me build strong relationships and earn trust in my market.
