We recently connected with Michele Wilcox and have shared our conversation below.

Michele, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

In 2019, the pressures of being a elementary teacher, new mom, and wife began to smother me. I found myself disappointed with the life I was participating in, and saw little alternatives. I knew I was no longer living, yet existing and I wanted to live again. I made the decision to take a leave from work and embarked on my therapeutic journey of self-care. With the help of my therapist and strong spiritual foundation, I was able to identify the root of my depression as self-neglect. Then, I made the commitment to keep my hands adorn with fancy artistic nails, that were a physical, visual reminder of who I AM and to “take” care of myself.

During the pandemic, frequent hand washing and sterilizing caused my hands, which had been works of art, to resemble decaying relics due to extreme dehydration and lack of care. Just then, I saw a parallel between my pandemic worn hands and my depression. I utilized my hands to their capacity until they began to crack and became unrecognizable, and it was time to intentionally take care. This prompted me to utilized my science background and compose products to care for the hands and feet, some of the most essential and neglected tools our bodies are adorned with. And thus Bailey’s Daisy was born.

The name Bailey’s Daisy is a double entendre. Bailey is my daughter’s name, and Daisy is a namesake shared by my paternal grandmother and me. Together standing side by side, it represents the past, present, and future. In addition to its generational meaning, the when Bailey was born a beautiful weed began to grow, a Daisy, which lead to healing and an alternative lifestyle that allowed me to breathe again.

Michele, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Bailey’s Daisy was birthed from my journey back to myself. As I became immersed in motherhood, I made sacrifices of time, energy, and self-care. Devoting most of my waking hours to Bailey, and work as a teacher, I greatly decreased my investment into self. I sacrificed regular grooming appointments, leisure activities, and hobbies. However, I refused to halt my lavish monthly nail appointments. I needed a physical, visual reminder to care for myself, and my fingertips served as an artistic canvas of self-care.

Bailey’s Daisy is a company centered around the experience of self-care, starting with your hands, feet, and skin. Our hands are tools that are in operation from the moment our day dawns, and remains our personal assistants until dusk. Our feet carry the weight of our world, toting every ounce of our existence and any additional baggage we acquire throughout the day. We often forget our skin is an organ and is the only barrier separating us from the outside world. These structure are so important to our daily routine, but often neglected.

Looking at my beautiful, well manicured, and sculpted hands reminded me of myself, while I resided in a life that was foreign. As I reflect over my journey, what really had become foreign was my care for self. As I trek forward, I am mindful to care for myself. I have Sankofa moments and now understand the value “taking care”. I have learned to take Self-Care personal, because I want to recognize and invest in self.

I believe my reputation has been built within my market because I intentionally share an experience with every person I encounter. I have developed a multi-sensory self-care store, and seek for everyone who supports my business to know that every aroma, optic, written word, and element of packaging is with the intention to promote love and light. When anyone invest their most valuable currency, time, it is my pleasure to make sure we embark on a shared experience that includes multi-sensory stimulation and positive energy exchange add aromatic dries flowers to each order. I apply product to customs with a gentle touch. I support customers in creating soothing sounds with singing bowls. Whether or not a commerce exchange occurs, an offering of positive energy is guaranteed.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

2019 was one of my most pivotal years to date. I was a multi-subject teacher and new mother, but I was not me. The roles of teacher and mother had begun to consume my identity and I no longer recognized myself nor my life. I was existing, only having the capacity to complete mandated task. I strayed so far from me, my interest, desires, goals, and aspirations uprooted from my memory. During this season, the only friend that felt familiar was sadness and depression. By June of 2019, I made the commitment to live again. I took an extensive leave from work, began seeking medical assistance for my mental health, and began to reorganize my existence around honesty and love. I became diligent with my thoughts and actions. I practiced grace. I adopted new perception and now could see the beauty and benefit in every obstacle. I smiled. I gave gratitude. Investing in myself, love, and honesty, transformed my perception on life, enabled forgiveness, and birth my new, current reality.
