We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michele Quigg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michele, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I opened Dreamy Daze in 2015 as an online only boutique. I started to be a vendor at several local markets and knew one day the goal was to open a brick and mortar location. If I could give any advice to a new business owner it would be to take the risk! I decided 2 years ago to go all in and open my brick and mortar location in downtown Milford. Being a small business owner is definitely not easy but it is the best job I have ever had. Trust your instincts even if you are the only one that believes in you. There will never be the perfect time and there will always be people around that doubt that you can do it but you just have to go for it!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Dreamy Daze is a women’s clothing boutique. I hand pick every item in the store to ensure quality, uniqueness and a great price! I always to try find items that are on trend but are something you won’t see in every other shop.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had many different careers in my life. I started in retail. I managed our family heating and cooling business. I worked in a dental office and lab. I learned skills in each of these positions that have helped me be a better business owner. Never stop learning. Never stop growing and never give up on your dream even if it takes changing careers many times to get there!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started out online only. I then started at local markets to build up clientele and followers. I had a solid customer base from online and market sales before taking the leap to opening a brick and mortar which has helped tremendously when foot traffic at the store gets slow.
