We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michele Hill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michele below.
Michele, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
As a business owner, the most valuable investment I’ve made has been in myself. Over the past decade, I’ve been involved in the beauty industry and continuously enhance my knowledge of products to provide a superior client experience. I’ve had the privilege of attending masterclasses by renowned celebrity and film artists, gaining invaluable insights that now transformed my makeup applications. Initially, I was overly focused on booking as many clients as possible, but through some unsuccessful advertising and marketing attempts, I learned the importance of establishing my personal brand and professional identity as a makeup artist. Now, I’ve solidified my artistic style and approach to ensure my clients not only receive exceptional skills but also feel comfortable and confident in my hands.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into the world of makeup and the beauty industry began in 2013 when a friend of mine gifted me an Ulta gift card and with that I bought my first eyeshadow palette, Urban Decay’s Naked palette.
In 2015, I launched Paint’d by Michele after family and friends started booking me for events and weddings. It was then that I realized my true passion not only for makeup but for connecting with others. Working with different clients has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to explore various styles such as stage makeup and weddings. I have had the opportunity to work on weddings, photoshoots, corporate videos, and film sets.
As a in Dallas-based makeup artist, I provide professional and unmatched service to my clients. I have a contemporary approach to beauty and prioritize listening to each client to ensure their needs are met and exceeded. I offer one on one lessons with my clients to ensure an personal experience without interruptions. I’m proud to have built specials bonds with regular and repeat clients. In the future, I plan to offer consulting services to other makeup artists.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There have been one instance when I wanted to give up and throw in the towel with my business. In the first few years of my business, I didn’t have established policies and procedures regarding payments. However, a particular incident changed that. I was hired for a 7-party wedding. I completed the makeup applications on time and upon request for the balance, the client stated they would pay the next day. Being a personal with integrity, I thought they would be as well, however, I never received payment or an explanation. After this happened, I upset and contemplated quitting my passion. Fortunately, I decided not to, and I’m grateful for that decision.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my friendliness and commitment to my clients have helped me build my reputation within the market. I’m communicative, reliable and always listen to what my clients what so I can deliver the best while making them feel beautiful in their own skin. Also, my talent and skills have set me apart from other artist in the industry.
