We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michele Daulton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michele thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In 2016, I took one of the biggest risks of my life: I left everything familiar behind and moved to the United States with my husband and two children. The transition was both exciting and terrifying. I didn’t have any friends or a support system, and everything—from the culture to the daily routines—felt brand new.
Two years later, in 2018, I took another bold step and started my own business as a lash artist. It might seem small from the outside, but for me, it was a leap into the unknown. I took a significant risk by investing several thousand dollars to enroll in beauty school—while constantly questioning myself whether it would be worth it and if I was making the right choice for my future.
I had no local network, no one to vouch for me, and no experience running a business in this country. The beauty industry relies so much on trust and word of mouth and not knowing anyone made it extremely difficult to gain that trust at first. I questioned whether anyone would give me a chance.
I started small—taking clients from home, slowly building my portfolio, and treating every client like they were the most important person in the world. One happy client turned into two, and word began to spread. I focused on consistency, professionalism, and creating a comfortable space for every person who walked through my door.
Looking back, the risk of starting my business was not just about financial uncertainty—it was about putting myself out there in a new world where nothing was guaranteed. But taking that risk transformed my life. My business has since grown beyond what I imagined, and I’ve found a community, a purpose, and a career I truly love.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Michele Daulton, and I’m a lash artist, educator, and entrepreneur based in Dripping Springs/Austin area. I started my journey in the beauty industry after moving to the U.S. in 2016. Like many immigrants, I faced the challenges of starting from scratch—no network, no local connections, and everything unfamiliar. But I had a passion for beauty and a drive to create something of my own.
In 2018, I took a leap of faith and started my own lash business. In the beginning, it was difficult to find clients—especially since I was new to the area and didn’t know anyone. But I stayed consistent, built my portfolio one client at a time, and over time, my work began to speak for itself.
I specialize in custom lash extensions with a focus on natural, beautiful results tailored to each individual’s eye shape and lifestyle. What sets me apart is my attention to detail, my commitment to hygiene and client care, and the personalized approach I bring to each lash set—because no two sets of eyes are the same.
I’ve helped other lash artists grow their businesses, and some of them are now running their own studios. Right now, I have two amazing lash artists working with me at my studio. I also offer in-person training and online courses for anyone who wants to improve their skill as a lash artist. My goal is not just to teach skills, but to help my students feel confident, creative, and professional.
I recently launched my own lash brand to make it easier and faster for other lash artists to do their work.
What I want clients and followers to know is this: my brand is built with passion and honesty. I believe beauty should make you feel more confident—not more stressed. Whether you’re coming in for a lash appointment or joining one of my classes, I’m here to support you and help you grow.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me, the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been providing exceptional customer service. I truly believe that making clients feel valued, comfortable, and confident is just as important as delivering great results. You can be the most talented lash artist, but if your clients don’t feel seen, heard, or appreciated, they’re unlikely to return or refer others.
I make it a point to create a welcoming environment where every client feels special. Whether it’s remembering their preferences, checking in after their appointments, or simply offering a warm and friendly vibe—they know I care about their experience from start to finish. Happy clients not only come back, but they also bring their friends.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I don’t manufacture the products myself, but I work closely with a trusted overseas manufacturer. As a lash studio owner with other lash artists working alongside me, I knew I needed high-quality products that were both reliable and cost-effective. So I started testing different suppliers—not just to get the best lash trays, but also to manage costs without sacrificing quality.
It was definitely a risky process. There were times when suppliers would send me samples that were amazing, so I’d confidently place a bulk order—only to receive products that didn’t match the quality of the sample at all. I’ve wasted money this way more than once. You just never really know what you’re going to get, and that’s what makes it such a gamble in the beginning.
Eventually, after a lot of trial and error, I found a reliable manufacturer who met my standards. I’ve been working with them for over three years now, using my own branded lash trays in the studio—and the quality has been consistent, which is so important in this industry. The great feedback from my team and clients gave me the confidence to make my products available to the public.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that finding the right supplier takes time and patience. It’s risky, but once you find the right partner and build a strong relationship, it’s absolutely worth it.
