We recently connected with Michele Boyette and Allyson Wilcox of Gameday Graduate and have shared our conversation below.
Michele and Allyson, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Gameday Graduate began as a need for a couple of empty nest moms to have all of the gameday gear. Between the two of us, we have five children in college – none of which are our alma maters. We had talked for years about potentially creating a business together and when we saw this need we knew we had an idea we could work with. We wanted cute apparel and accessories for gameday that was versatile and attractive but we really couldn’t find those options. We began designing our own apparel and curating tailgate accessories and within a few months we had a website ready to launch.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We wanted Gameday Graduate to be the place you come to for all things gameday. We curated tailgating items, designed apparel, custom beaded straps and gameday buttons. We started with the SEC conference because it is what we know but quickly began adding other schools and conferences to our collection. Our amazing customers have been so supportive and it is amazing to watch this community grow. Customer service is our top priority and our customers are considered friends. Therefore, we treat them as such.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Strangers are just friends we haven’t met yet. Allyson and I are very social people and enjoy getting to know others. This has spilled into our business and now our customers, vendors, and business contacts have become our friends.
Relationships are so important when building and growing a business. It’s fascinating to watch your network develop and grow. Women in business can help each other this way and become a resource for one another.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Hands down, customer service and going the extra mile. We have a saying that anything worth doing is worth overdoing. If a customer orders a gameday purse and strap for her and her best friend to take to their college reunion you had better believe we are going to wrap them and make them beautiful for this special occasion. If a mom orders custom buttons for her high school son’s football game, you know we are going to add some extras for loved ones and siblings.
We enjoy making people happy and sharing our gift of making things pretty. These niceties stay with our customers and they share with their friends. Those friends become our next customers.
