Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Micheala Opoku. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Micheala, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
When I first started doing hair, I had a customer who did not like her hair when she went home. When she told me she didn’t like it and I told her to come back the very next day so I can fix it and she did. Time went by and she booked with me again I asked her “why did you come back after I messed up the first time”? she responded “Because you gave me great customer service and you were not rude”. At that moment I saw the power of what great customer service can do for your business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a 19 year old hairstylist located in Dallas Texas. I started having a strong interest of wigs at the age of 16. I learned how to install wigs by watching youtube videos. I don’t have a sister so, I would practice the skills I learned on my friends. I practiced for a year and 3 months before I started accepting clients. As I started getting clients, I was getting better and better each time. I am still trying to perfect my craft to make sure my clients get the quality service they deserve from me. I am also a full -time college student majoring in Businesses Management. Being a college student and doing hair can get difficult at times. I be up late at night working on wigs or even have homework to do after a client, but my hard work will pay off at the end. I want young people to know that you can peruse anything you have in mind and you must strongly believe in yourself. The sky is the limit and as long as you have no doubts you will succeed.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When you watch television, you always see commercials right? Sometimes you end up seeing the same commercial over and over again. That’s how much you should be advertising your business. Never feel like you’re bothering people by posting about your business. People see your work and by continuously posting your work, you can get potential clients. When I first started my business, I was building clientele through Snapchat. Now, I receive clientele from Instagram, my website, Tik tok and etc.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first started doing wigs, I would tell my clients to come with their hair cornrowed because I didn’t t know how to cornrow. My friend Angel taught me how to cornrow. I don’t have a sister to practice on and my Mom is usually busy at work. So, I had to improvise by using a mannequin and my cousin to practice on how to cornrow.
