We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michal Lifshitz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
POEMET was born approximately two years ago. After working for many years as a graphic & brand designer, with a wide array of clientele, I decided to pursue my long standing dream to create a brand of my own, that will combine my love for graphic, textile & fashion design.
After experiencing a few life changing events, I had a strong feeling that time is passing by, and I shouldn’t waste it anymore. That I should fulfill my dream now.
‘POEMET’ is a Hebrew word that means ‘A woman’s heartbeat’.
It can also be interpreted as ‘Po Emet’, which means ‘Here lies the truth’.
In English the meaning is of A short poem.
The brand’s motto is ‘Your life’s experiences are poetry in motion’.
To date POEMET has launched two collections:
‘In the Beginning’ & ‘Pheresis’.

Michal, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Israeli designer, mother of two, located in NYC.
A graduate of Shenkar College of Design, in the visual communication department.
I am a passionate art and design lover.
POEMET is a unique silk scarves and textile brand.
The inspiration for the design is rooted in nature, in evolutionary processes in the human body, looking into microscopic cells and giving a graphic, abstract, colorful interpretation.
POEMET’s first two collections include three different sizes of silk scarves, and soon we’ll be launching other products made of cotton and other fabrics.
The woman who wears POEMET is draped in an artful, soft and luxurious creation. Our designs are intended to look different in every angle, as if living moving organisms.
It took a lot of courage and ‘Chutzpah’ to make this brand come to life. I had no education in textile design, I didn’t know anybody in the industry, I wasn’t sure if people would like it, and I started questioning myself.
I wanted to create my own path that would make me feel complete, exploring unfamiliar territories and putting my designs and myself out there.
I love the feeling that with every scarf purchased, a part of me and my creation is transferred through and has its own life.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I feel like what my brand is lacking the most is large exposure. Reaching the target audience can be tricky and it is a long road of trials and errors.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part is that I feel I am chasing after my dreams. I am in my element, and not wasting my potential.
I love seeing how clients feel when they wear the scarves, and hearing how many compliments they receive!
I feel that with every scarf purchased a part of me is expanded and extended furthermore.
