Michael, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?

When photography went from a hobby to a career, there was a big mental shift that happened. I remember thinking that I had to introduce myself as a photographer and tell my family and friends this is what I do now. It’s no longer just a hobby or side hustle, this is my career. People want to help and support you, a lot of times they don’t know how. I told everyone I knew that I was looking for photo jobs. My grandmother even passed out flyers at her gym and helped me book a date. Love her :)

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I’m a photographer located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania specializing in wedding & lifestyle photography! I work with my clients to create timeless images that capture authenticity and personality. I want all of my images to tell a story and draw the viewer in.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

So much of the wedding industry is built on trust and reputation. Being able to keep your clients happy and deliver quality work is what it’s all about. If other vendors know you consistently deliver (and you’re fun to work with) they’ll recommend you. The more you do this, you build a reputation of happy clients and work that makes everyone look good.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

I believe recommendations are what it’s all about. Who can you help and vice versa? Work hard to build strategic relationships and keep your current clients happy.
