We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Urbina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At Urbina Immigration Law, we strive to provide our employees a work-life balance. We have successfully implemented a four day work week and this year we reduced the working hours from 40 hours a week to 36 hours including lunch. This has increased productivity it has boosted morale and we could not be happier.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a result of securing an internship with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), I was exposed to immigration law and subsequently secured a position in the field. Following my graduation from law school, I elected to remain in this area of practice and, after three years, established my own firm. Our firm specializes in a range of practice areas including removal defense, family immigration, permanent residence, naturalization, U-Visa, T-Visa, youth visa and humanitarian relief.
Our primary focus is to assist clients in navigating the complex and constantly evolving landscape of United States immigration law. We understand that immigrating to a new country can be a daunting process, particularly when it comes to understanding the laws and procedures associated with immigration. Through our services, we provide clients with comprehensive advice, guiding them through the process from start to finish.
We take pride in providing our clients with honest legal advice and are committed to delivering high-quality work that meets their needs. This is the most important aspect of our work at the firm and one that we believe sets us apart from others in the field.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The majority of referrals for our firm come from existing clients, followed closely by social media. Our firm has placed a special emphasis on leveraging social media as it represents the most cost-effective and successful marketing tool for us to connect with our clients. We recognize that our clients appreciate receiving accurate information in a format that is both accessible and easy to comprehend. Given the complexity of immigration law, social media platforms offer an ideal medium through which we can provide guidance and support to our clients.
Our firm leverages multiple social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram to engage with our audience. We create video content and live shows as part of our strategy to connect with clients. Moreover, we have developed client groups to offer a more individualized level of support and guidance to our clients.Ultimately, our aim is to ensure that immigration law is as easily understandable and accessible as possible for our clients, and we believe that social media is a vital tool in achieving this goal.
Maintaining consistency and discussing topics that our clients are genuinely interested in is paramount to our social media strategy. Rather than assuming what our clients want to hear, we prioritize actively listening to and considering their feedback. This approach has proven instrumental in our content development efforts, and has enabled us to exponentially expand our social media audience over the years.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Despite the complexity of our work, we prioritize cultivating a positive office culture to maintain high employee morale. We believe that office culture is crucial, and as such, we have painstakingly created an environment that is efficient, quality-driven, and family-focused. This was no easy feat. We offer our employees a great deal of flexibility concerning personal matters, allow them to work from home on a regular basis, and have implemented reduced working hours to ensure ample rest time. To promote team-building and interaction, we organize regular activities and hold lunch-and-learn sessions. Furthermore, we host quarterly retreats to foster stronger relationships among team members and facilitate learning opportunities.
