We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael Trombley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.
Michael, appreciate you joining us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss? What did you learn from them? Maybe you can share a story that illustrates the kind of boss they were or maybe you can share your thoughts on what you think made them an awesome person to work for?
The best boss that I ever had was during my years as an electrical engineer at my previous job, prior to jumping into NativeAudio full-time. Carrie was amazing and truly taught me what great leadership meant. In previous positions, I always thought that I’m here and the boss is up there. We lived in two separate worlds, almost like two different teams. However, Carrie redefined leadership and showed me that we both served on the same team and fought for the same purpose. It might sound wild but it was so true. Carrie also went above and beyond for her team. It didn’t matter how big or little the challenge was, she would fight for you. These experiences have stayed with me since and I work to implement the same experience to my team today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
NativeAudio is a Native American owned effect pedal manufacturer based out of Dayton, Ohio. NativeAudio was created out my passion for engineering and music.
I started the business as a hobby during my undergraduate studies but later turned it into a full-time business following graduate school.
NativeAudio works to inspire creativity through sound, simplicity, and story. The sounds of our products inspire musicians to explore their creativity. The simplicity of our products provide the clarity for musicians to create. As I’m a member of the Blackfeet Nation, I work to provide a deeper understanding and connection to my heritage through each of the NativeAudio products.
The Blackfeet stories that are shared through our products really make NativeAudio a unique pedal company. It’s been an honor to be able to carry on the legacy and culture of the Blackfeet Nation. Native culture holds so much mystery because it’s not normally taught in school, so it’s awesome to be able to shed some light on the history of my people and our culture.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
2022 has been a year of pivoting. The years of doing business one way will not hold and so we’ve relooked at how we offer our product line and even more, how we connect with our audience. The cool thing about the internet is that there’s so many ways that we can now connect with our audience, the options are endless and we can’t wait to explore these options even more! Pivoting is essential as industries change and it’s a dance that’s worth pursuing.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be you. It’s simple. In a world full of people trying to be other people on social media, it’s easier to be yourself. Then, when people are swimming through a huge wave of cookie-cutter profiles and companies, you’re almost like a golden egg when they stumble upon you. If you can connect by showing empathy and humility, the whole wall of disconnect is removed and you can actually connect on a human basis with an audience. Also, this is the most rewarding kind of connection. The one where you are being sincere and honest, building a real connection.
