We were lucky to catch up with Michael Simmons recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?

Prior to being a business owner I was in law enforcement for 15 years. I did everything from working in the jail, being on patrol and becoming a detective. Being in law enforcement taught me that being engaged in your community and being able to actually stop and talk with people, you learn so much about life, mistakes and advice that help you or others in your life journey. When becoming a business owner I brought that same concept with me to treat everyone equally. I try to get to know everyone of my clients that walk through my doors and treat them like family.

I’m born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas (Wyandotte County) I served as a Sheriff Deputy for 15 years for the Wyandotte County Sheriff Office and retired in 2022. I turned around and followed my dream of getting into the cigar world and opening up my own cigar lounge in Downtown Kansas City, Kansas (Strawberry Hill). I got into this industry because I fell in love with the art of cigar smoking and cigar lounges and how you are forced to take a step back from life and relax once you get to sit down and smoke. Our lounge provides a high class experience for the well seasoned smoker or a person wanting to try something new.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I think what helped us build our Cigar Lounge reputation is the environment we offer with little to no distractions of technology. Every lounge in the metro area is awesome and offers something different to the cigar culture.
