We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Sherman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I try to think out of the box for my clients to differenciate them from their competition. Alot of businesses use social media for sales. It should be used for brand awareness.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Michael Sherman and I have been doing digital marketing for 11 years. I started doing traditional advertising and saw the potential in digital marketing and joined an organization. Before I knew it, I became part of the board and decided to open my own company.
I love what I do and am proud of the numerous clients I have acquired and kept through the years. It’s a lot of work but very rewarding.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media takes time and you need to have patience. You also need consistancy and to be relevant. You can’t just set up social media pages and think your cash register is going to go wild.
Social media is a branding platform more than anything and you need to feed it with good, relevant and educational content so users will want to follow you.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals are the best source of obtaining new clients. The more people you connect with and build a relationship with, the more new business you will achieve. It is that simple.
