We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael R Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael R below.
Michael R, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Most meaningful project: One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on to date was my recent Alumni 50th Class Reunion Portrait Project. The project aimed to gather and showcase portraits of some of my alumni who graduated 50 years ago.
Backstory: As the project photographer and alumni committee member, we faced the challenge of locating and contacting class members. We contacted numerous sources, including social media, alumni association meetings, and personal connections. The finished portraits are printed in a book and presented to the alumni at our Black and White Ball of our reunion. The joy I experienced when seeing the responses and reconnecting with so many of my alumni was truly heartwarming. The project captured the essence of their journey over the years, brought back fond memories, and created a sense of unity within the class. The project was truly meaningful as it highlighted the incredible accomplishments and resilience of the alumni while preserving their legacy for generations to come.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
To best support artists, creatives, and a thriving ecosystem, society can take several measures:
Encouraging Arts Education: Society can prioritize arts education by providing platforms and resources for students to explore their creativity and develop their artistic skills from a young age. This can include incorporating arts programs into school curricula, organizing workshops and mentorship programs, and supporting community arts centers.
Promoting Accessible Spaces: It is essential to create accessible spaces where artists and creatives can work, exhibit, and collaborate. This involves providing affordable studio spaces, supporting artist residencies and community art centers, and developing cultural hubs that foster creativity and innovation.
Supporting Funding and Grants: Society can establish funding initiatives and grants targeting artists and creatives. This financial support can assist in the creation of new work, the development of artistic skills, and the realization of innovative projects. Government, organizations, and individuals can contribute to these funds to ensure a sustainable source of support for artists.
Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion: Society should recognize and value the diversity of artistic expressions, perspectives, and experiences. This can be achieved by embracing art forms from different cultures, supporting marginalized and underrepresented artists, and providing platforms for various voices to be heard.
Promoting Collaboration and Networking: Facilitating collaboration among artists, creatives, and other stakeholders can create innovative and impactful work. Society can encourage networking events, artist collectives, and interdisciplinary collaborations to foster a vibrant artistic ecosystem.
Patronage and Valuing Art: Society plays a pivotal role in acknowledging the importance and value of art. This can be demonstrated by promoting art appreciation, encouraging purchases, and engaging with local art exhibitions and events. Public and private institutions can actively collect and display art, providing a broader platform for artists to showcase their work.
Advocacy and Policy Reform: Society can advocate for better policies that protect and support artists. This includes fair copyright laws, tax incentives for art-related activities, and improved access to healthcare and social security benefits for artists. By lobbying for these changes, society can better nurture and sustain a thriving artistic ecosystem.
By implementing these strategies, society can holistically support artists, creatives, and a thriving ecosystem, ensuring that art and creativity continue to enrich and inspire our communities.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I ask myself the following questions:
1. What subjects or themes do I consistently gravitate towards in my creative work?
2. How does my creativity fulfill me or bring meaning to my life?
3. What impact do I hope to make through my creative endeavors?
4. Who or what inspires me in my creative journey?
5. What values or beliefs do I aim to reflect in my creative work?
Taking the time to introspect on these questions and analyzing my past experiences and motivations can provide insights into the mission or goal that drives my creative journey.
It’s a personal journey, and my goals and mission may evolve or change.
