We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Perrotta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michael thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission has always been about helping young writers achieve their dream in being seriously considered to be published.
By being a “boutique” publishing house “Bellucci, Palms & Carmichael Publishing” takes pride in working one-on-one with the writer/poet/screenwriter, giving them the utmost personal attention in getting their work ready for publication.
My own novella “The Old Seagull & the Tide-walker” is about achieving and believing in oneself to be all he can be. It’s not only spiritual but also inspirational. Not only do I believe in my mission but I also write about it, so much so that it’s available in 5 languages (English, Spanish, Italian, French and Russian).
Michael, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Back in 2016, I created Bellucci, Palms & Carmichael Publishing, making it into a “boutique” publishing house, where the author didn’t feel like a number, but would have access directly with the editor, creating a one-on-one connection with the editor and publisher. Where the author could discuss, plan and get their “dream” work published.
One of the achievements, which we’re very proud of is “The Program in Film Finance”. A manual written and used by the Lecturer Harold Lewis, at the UCLA summer session. This is one of the things which Harold and I share, and that is: in helping young people.
Actually this last April, we published a young poet, Alexis Jade’s “Window Diaries – a collection of poems.”
Instead, last year we proudly published the poems by Carolina Rivera Escamilla’s “In a Corner of Your Country”. She is a bilingual educator, writer and documentarian, born in El Salvador. .
Another very important success is the translation from Italian into English, and publication of the memoirs of the international actor Franco Nero, who became famous for his leading role in “Django”.
And still another accomplishment has been the adaptation of “Everlasting Love” by one of our authors, Elisabeth Lovini, into a feature script, and is being pitched to Hollywood.
We provide services, such as: editing, translations, adaptations into scripts, and voice-over for audio eBooks.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
As we all know, business is about generating money.
This is all true but it’s not the only thing that should drive forward a business, and as I’ve said before, the one-on-one connection that we build with our authors is so important by creating that personal relationship which eventually turns into everlasting friendship. And this has no money value.
It’s all about the human connectedness.
Also, we learn from each other, such in the case of learning about film funding when I published the manual “The Program in Film Finance”. Things that came very handy especially now that I’m pitching the script which was co-written by me and Elisabeta Gagiu.
This is knowledge which we want to share through our books and to make us better human beings.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I’ve found in my past businesses and especially now in Bellucci, Palms & Carmichael Publishing, that it’s so important to do business in the “old fashion way,” and that is to meet one-on-one, and shake the person’s hand to create an immediate bond between us.
Yes, technology has made it easier to reach out to a person and communicate with them. But since we are social human being nothing takes away the most important thing in life and in business. and that is initiating an immediate trust where one can “feel” the other person face to face, where one gets the “vibe” on the trustworthiness in concluding an everlasting business continuity with one’s clients.
Of course we are always in need of new clients and must search them out, but one thing which is of utmost importance is to maintain your already established clients whom you’ve been doing business with. This is what builds your “core” business and you can build on this.
So go out and shake a hand!
