We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Meyers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Michael, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

My first paid Gig I fell into it by accident. My friend invited me to one of his shows as a guest and I randomly played piano for a moment. At the end of the show, the person in charge told my friend she would venmo him and then points at me and says “you too” after I got the deposit in my bank account, I started to pursue doing this on the side outside of my special education career.

Michael, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I chase public pianos. I get a thrill out of trying different pianos and playing in front of people.
I also do formal events for private bookings. Samples of my work can be found on my instagram and tiktok accounts @pianomikeofficial.
One of my favorite public pianos I play is on mondays and thursdays When i get out of work(nyc schools) I go to oculus at the world trade center and play there. The smiles on the faces of the people is what keeps me coming back. The piano is provided by the sing for hope organization

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

I hope to open up a center with my business partner and friend PianoPete. It will be for underprivileged children and young adults to have access to musical instruments and resources so they can discover their musical talents and spend their time in a creative and productive environment

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The reaction of the people when they see me play piano. And the meaningful conversations afterwards with fans and other talented musical artists

Most people before they walk by the piano are not smiling. After they see and hear and feel whats going on, it brings out their happiness and joy and they can’t hide their smile anymore
