We recently connected with Michael Matteo Rossi and have shared our conversation below.
Michael Matteo, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I’m absolutely happy being an artist. I knew from a very early age that the ‘9-5’ a day job wasn’t going to work for me. In high school and a bit in college I worked the part time retail and services jobs and absolutely no disrespect to them, but I just knew I had to make it in film to pursue and do that as much as I can. We are all on borrowed time whether we like knowing it or not, so make the most out of doing what you love.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started creative writing in jr. high and loved creating stories and that passion went into high school and began more detailed stories and I grew up watching so many classic films, so I know I wanted to transition into doing that. I loved the movies I saw on the big screen and it motivated me to want to tell my own stories there someday. I made my first few short films while I still was at San Diego State and then came back up to Los Angeles after I graduated and continued to make films and here I am 16 years later still doing so!
How did you build your audience on social media?
With twitter in particular; it happened fast and organically. I’ve had a twitter since 2012, but it wasn’t until about 2016 where I started to just share my thoughts on the business, advice and random ranting about it, and people loved it and started to retweet my stuff like crazy and it grew from there. I still use it almost every day now and love it!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Just networking with the right people and keeping the negative toxic time wasting people out of your life and business.
