We were lucky to catch up with Michael Lovato recently and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
We have had multiple success stories over the past few years, and we have also felt the pain of a few struggles and shortcomings with our clients. Probably one of the best successes was when we helped a young set of buyers purchase their first home with a super low downpayment (of 3%), right in the middle of the hyper-fast, seller-controlled market of 2021. On paper, these buyers were outgunned on all aspects, but we were able to get them into a starter home in a great neighborhood. They immediately began renovating the home, they have been happily living there for two years, and they have built a ton of equity already. Generally speaking, happy buyers are buyers who are grateful to take the plunge in Boulder County real estate; however, this pair was even higher on the “happy scale.”

Michael, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I moved to Boulder with my wife Amanda back in 2001, fresh on the heels of the 9/11 attacks, and in an economy that was not thriving. We were both trying to make it as professional triathletes, and we managed to find part time work in the retail world. Fast forward about 5 years, Amanda got her real estate license, and I started originating mortgages with a local company. This was our first foray into the business; however, it was not until our daughter Valentine was born in 2013 that Amanda got serious about real estate. She grew her business so quickly that by 2017, soon after the birth of our son Zane, I got licensed and joined her at Lovato Properties.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Having always made our way as self-employed entrepreneurs of sorts, Amanda and I have figured out that the only way to succeed is to keep focused on the big picture, to make the most of the process and the journey, and to continue to shift the goals as we progress. We do not view our failures as setbacks, but rather as valuable learning points. Spending so long as full-time athletes, we got very comfortable with this mentality. It’s necessary to work so hard and to remain so consistent in sport, and even with that level of commitment, successes and victories are never a given. Keeping forward progress is key, consistency is key. With those in place, and with some positivity, we have developed resiliency.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that we have built our reputation primarily on our willingness to work hard, to offer great communication, and to always focus on the relationship. From day one with real estate, we have made it clear to our clients, friends, and followers that we prioritize that relationship over everything. Leading with that principle has allowed us to grow via referrals from our clients, our service providers, and other industry associates. We love working with great people, and we try to let that shine through.
