We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael Lin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.
Michael, appreciate you joining us today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
We donate and are on the emerging leaders counsel for My Friend’s Place. For 33 years and counting, My Friend’s Place has been assisting and inspiring youth experiencing homelessness to build self-sufficient lives. We wanted to give back to our local community and to help those youth experiencing homelessness.
Michael, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m originally from Minnesota and moved out to LA in 2007. I found a passion for education and teaching which is why I became a pre-kindergarten teacher for 10 years. It was through this experience in which I founded Mannies of L.A. I noticed the lack of positive male role models in the early years, which are some of the most important years of a child’s life. I’m proud that we have been in business for almost 10 years and we have placed hundreds of male nannies with families!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Learn to say no to something so you can say yes to something else. Finding a balance of work and personal life is extremely important. It’s important to be able to say no to work so you can yes to something you enjoy.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My persistence in making this work and to be okay with failing!
