We were lucky to catch up with Michael James recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michael thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was sitting in the nosebleeds at MetLife Stadium watching Kenny Chesney perform live was the moment I knew I wanted to do this professionally.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Michael James! I’m a country artist residing in Nashville, TN. I got into this industry by picking up a guitar when I was 19 years old and teaching myself how to play, sing, and write songs all at the same time. Flash forward 5 years and now living in music city, I get to write/record/play my original music daily. In this industry there is a lot of competition if you look at it that way, but for me I look at it as we’re all on the same team trying to make the best thing possible for the fans. If I can let the people know one thing about myself and my music would be that it’s all faith driven. My earlier releases may be more of the party country type but now because of the grace of God, I get to make music that is faith based and still country as we know it.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when someone tells you that the music related so much or helped heal them and bring them closer to God. That’s really what it’s all about. If a song I release can help strengthen your relationship with God then that’s a win right there.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think for non-creatives the best way I can put it is that I’m just riding the breeze and living each day as God gives it to me. It really is just a walk with Him and trying to be obedient to His calling on my life. That’s where we can all relate. It doesn’t matter what profession we’re in as long as we’re following Him.
