We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael , thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The founders of JML, Joey, Michael, and Laboris are former college teammates that have overcome a lot of adversity to get to where they are now. Michael survived electrocution, and Laboris survived a shooting. Through it all, we have been able to stay in top condition, train elite athletes and start JML in 2020, during the pandemic. After seeing and hearing about so many people in underserved communities losing their lives to covid in the early days of the pandemic, the founders came together to create products that would help people of color build immunity to fight off covid. Strong immunity also helps to improve one’s mental state. There were so many people struggling mentally during the pandemic that we wanted to create products that would address this in a way that removed any stigma attached to people of color seeking treatment for mental health. We want to change the playing field and make improving physical and mental health a cool thing to do therefore, we target people who need help and may have lost hope and provide them with the education, products and motivation needed to overcome adversity. How do you keep your team’s morale high?

How’d you meet your business partner?
We actually meet at the University of Oklahoma in 1997. We were on the same track team. We always had respect and admiration for each other. Instant chemistry because we were very competitive and had to work hard and take the unconventional routes to get to University of Oklahoma to be apart of the Sooner Track Team. We didn’t realize 20yrs later we would be forming a business together
