Alright, Michael thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

IconXChange Business Solutions, LLC was born out of a deep desire to bridge the gap between community, industry standards, and service. In today’s rapidly changing digital world, ensuring a secure technological infrastructure is more important than ever. Our solutions not only help organizations meet security standards but also protect their infrastructure, which in turn safeguards their assets and employees’ livelihoods.

Coming from a background in financial services, I have always been driven by a passion for serving individuals. At IconXChange, we see company representatives not just as employees but as people with families and loved ones. This mission is about more than just technological progress; it’s about creating solutions that enhance company efficiency and longevity, supporting the dedicated teams who provide essential services to their communities.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Michael Hanson, and I am proud to say that I was born and raised in West Baltimore. This community has shaped me into who I am today. I graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and am currently pursuing my MBA. Beyond my professional achievements, I am a devoted son, brother, grandson, Guncle, and an “icon” in my own right. Through my entrepreneurial journey, I aim to inspire others with authenticity, resilience, and determination.

My background is rooted in financial services, particularly in Real Estate and Life Insurance. I have dedicated myself to helping clients secure properties and create financial stability for their families and businesses. Educating people on the importance of financial tools and policies has allowed me to stand out in the industry while fulfilling my passion for serving others.

The genesis of IconXChange began in 2022 when my best friend and business partner, who is also the Co-CEO, proposed a joint venture into a new industry. Despite our lack of prior experience in this field, the challenge sparked my curiosity and determination. Entrepreneurship, to me, is about blending purpose and passion while embracing risks. This venture provided us the opportunity to be one of the first Black, LGBTQ+ owned consulting firms in this industry, representing our background and demographic while adding our unique “Iconic” touch to our company’s operations.

IconXChange Business Solutions, LLC specializes in Information Technology and Cybersecurity consulting. We utilize agnostic methods to stabilize corporate IT infrastructure, promoting business continuity and customer retention. Our technological solutions aim to grant companies operational efficiency for years to come. What sets us apart is not only our niche in consulting but also our boldness and authenticity. We shine brightly in every environment, encouraging others to do the same.

This is more than just a business for us; it is a soul mission. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of our clients and our community, and we carry this commitment in everything we do.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

This is the most popular question I am asked, and my favorite to answer. My business partner, Brian Harper, and I met during my tenure as a Real Estate Agent. At the time, I was a young, ambitious agent looking to grow my brand while also navigating my undergraduate studies. Brian was the Marketing Director for the in-house Title Company at my brokerage.

Brian, a marketing genius, conducted sessions known as “Title Talk” to show agents how the title company and its representatives could support them during sales transactions. Although we often crossed paths in the halls, our interactions were limited to a simple “Hi”.

One day, I scheduled a “Title Talk” with Brian. As soon as we both entered the room, we began talking as if we were old friends reuniting. We have an inside joke that it was more “Talk” than “Title”. From that moment, a unique bond was built. We became friends and began supporting each other, holding one another accountable to our goals and dreams.

Through life’s obstacles and hurdles, I have witnessed Brian’s bold character firsthand. We have navigated some of the most tumultuous and challenging life events together, yet we continue to come out on top. When Brian proposed the idea of initiating a joint business venture, I never questioned if I could do business with him. Our friendship had already demonstrated our shared values and principles, which I knew would carry us through any challenge. I trust Brian completely.

The initial question was, “Okay, what kind of business?” That’s another joke we share! With Brian’s daring sense of adventure and my gift for organization and optimism, we are an unstoppable force.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

As I’ve grown and developed into entrepreneurship, various tools have been instrumental in my growth. Podcasts, social media reels, and corporate webinars have all played a role in shaping my thinking. One of my favorite books, “Unapologetically Ambitious” by Shellye Archambeau, was gifted to me. This novel tells the inspiring story of a young Black woman who, despite many challenges, became the CEO of a technological firm. Her journey through family struggles, highs and lows, and relentless grit resonated deeply with me. There were many similarities between the main character and myself that made her story particularly impactful.

Beyond these resources, the most significant factor in my growth has been surrounding myself with like-minded people. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy path; there are many obstacles that can make you want to turn back. However, having a supportive village that encourages you to aim high has kept me afloat. Growth is uncomfortable, but the rewards it brings are invaluable. The greatest reward is not monetary; it’s the development of character. I am grateful to have great friends in Business, and the unwavering support of my immediate family during this development. I am Blessed.
