We recently connected with Michael Guberti and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michael thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
Over 6 years, a medical aesthetics practice went from making 6 figures per year to 7 figures per year, growing its annual revenue by more than 2.5 times the original amount.
Start it, grow it, sell it:
Venture capitalists started making offers to purchase the 7-figure med spa. The owner sold the business and stayed on to become the company’s director of clinical training for all of its injectors in different locations.
High-quality marketing made the difference:
The business was founded in 2015. In 2015 and 2016, the med spa did not have a high-quality marketing strategy and someone to implement it consistently. Their revenue numbers were a reflection of that. Then, the owner started working with digital marketing strategist Michael Guberti who created and carried out their promotional plan. 6 years later, the spa had its best year ever and was in talks to sell from a place of financial strength.
The revenue numbers say it all:
Here is the year-by-year revenue growth of the practice:
2016: $600,399
Michael started working with this med spa in 2017.
2017: $944,195
2018: $1,348,146
2019: $1,298,977. The business owner wanted to see if we could avoid increasing the marketing budget for the year and still grow the business. After testing it out, the answer for her business was no.
2020: 1,267,618.06 in 10 months. The business was closed for 2 months due to covid.
2021: $1,608,873.86
2022: The owner sold her business in 2022.
Before the sale took place, 2022 was off to a good start. The gross profit after the first quarter of 2022 was $280,835.92. By comparison, the gross profit after the first quarter of 2021 was $254,534.61.
Michael , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My experience publishing material online and writing blogs began one summer when my Mom suggested that my brother and I start blogs. My blog was about the New York Mets, and my brother Marc wrote blogs about the Boston Red Sox. Over time, my blog shifted from writing about the New York Mets, to researching the motivation of different athletes across various sports (what makes them think and perform the way they do), and finally to marketing (how to get the word out about your idea or company).
My first marketing client was my Mom, Nancy Guberti, an excellent biomedical functional medicine specialist. I helped her with her online presence (website management, graphics, podcast information, etc) and I continue to service her to this day. Then I started servicing some of my neighbors who are business owners, and grew my business over time via referrals and my own online ad campaigns. Years later, I have serviced businesses in a variety of industries: med spas, plastic surgeons, orthodontists, architects, Feng Shui consultants, weight loss clinics, senior care providers, and others.
I strategize, develop and manage paid digital marketing campaigns across Google, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok and other platforms. I create email marketing campaigns, optimize SEO, review insights from Google Analytics, and implement reputation management strategies.
Some case studies from businesses I work with include:
• Grew 6-figure med spas to 7 figures in 6 years.
• Assisted an orthodontic practice to reach the top 1% of Invisalign provider offices in North America two years in a row.
• Achieved a 51% growth rate year-over-year for a hair salon.
• Worked with Feng Shui school from startup to 6 figures.
I am a strategy and results-driven digital marketer and freelance writer with 9 years of experience building paid and organic marketing funnels for business-to-consumer and business-to-business markets. Marketing efforts I have overseen have generated roughly $90M in lifetime revenue for the businesses I have worked with. I have managed and spent over a million dollars on online advertising campaigns.
In terms of freelance writing, I wrote digital marketing articles for the Westchester County and Fairfield County Business Journals from 2015 to 2021. My articles shared insights into digital marketing and social media strategies for businesses to grow.
I currently write for the National Institutes of Health, and the Plastic and Aesthetic Nursing Journal, sharing cutting-edge digital marketing strategies for medical aesthetics practices.
As a digital marketing speaker, I’ve spoken at the annual International Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Nurses (ISPAN) Conference twice, the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Conference in front of 1,000+ people during my presentation called “How To Win On Social Media”, and “An Evening with the Media” panel at the Westchester Magazine Headquarters in Rye, NY.
My brother and I started a 501c3 nonprofit called Guberti Giving to empower the next generation of leaders. For four years, we held in-person programs at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. We sponsored students from the nearby areas and lower Westchester so they could attend and learn how to identify their passions, create products, promote themselves, and propel their careers. It was a personal and professional development program. We are grateful to have received support from the New York Knicks, Nextiva phone company, and other organizations. The New York Knicks gave my brother and I the Sweetwater Clifton “City Spirit” Award. Now we offer the program online.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Because I am the one who does the work for my clients, it separates me from digital marketing agencies who have other third-parties do the work. Often, a business owner will speak with their account representative from a digital marketing agency, but the person they are speaking with does not do the work. There is a disconnect, and it shows in the quality of the work and results.
When I work with business owners, I speak with them, integrate their feedback into their campaigns, and create campaigns, implement promotional strategies, and monitor the results. There is no middleman, disconnect or miscommunication.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Posting high-quality information and running paid ads to draw attention to it is important. Offering informative resources in exchange for people’s email addresses is a way to build your contact list. Communicating with your email subscribers regularly helps you stay top-of-mind with them. Pitching your business to your email list is a way to promote your services and products.
To people just starting out, start building a group of potential customers and communicate with them consistently. Send a mix of informative material and promotional messages to them.
