We recently connected with Michael Gaglione and have shared our conversation below.

Michael, appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?

Redline Athletics – Sutton Square is a family owned business that opened its doors in July of 2021. We are Raleigh’s premier youth training facility for youth athletes. We train any athlete from 5-18 years old and specialize in injury prevention, speed, agility and strength training.

Michael, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My wife, Grace, and I started Redline Athletics – Sutton Square for several reasons. First, we have 4 wonderful children. Sophia, 14, Jeff, 12, Bella, 11, and Logan, 5. The oldest 3 kids are all competitive athletes and Grace and I saw a major need in Raleigh for a place where all ATHLETES can train. When we found Redline, we knew it was a great company to join since Redline is about training the athlete first and then working on sports-specific training. This allows any youth athlete the ability to come and join the Redline family no matter their sport or athletic ability.

Also, our oldest 3 kids have seen some overuse injuries between them. Redline uses Fusionetics technology to help scan our athletes for potential injuries. We then use these tests to get the athletes’ weak or struggling body parts up to strength so they can avoid injuries in the future. Also, since we train the whole athlete, our training programs help athletes avoid overuse injuries.

Besides the 4 kids, I have always had a passion for coaching and Redline enables me to continue this passion. I have coached all of my kids for over 10+ years in flag football, soccer, basketball and baseball/softball. My passion is coaching baseball and I have coached competitive travel baseball for over 5 years.

We opened Redline Athletics – Sutton Square in mid-July 2021 and have been trying to educate the Raleigh community on Redline while expanding our family of Redline Athletes. Our employees are what make Redline Athletics – Sutton Square such a great place. Meghan Gaglione, Director of Business Development, is the face of our business and give everyone a warm welcome when they come in for their 7-day free trial. Nick Shuping, CSCS, is our Sports Development Director and leads all of our training. Nick has a background in training collegiate teams including, soccer, basketball, baseball, and football. Devin Burrowes, CSCS, is our Sport Performance Specialist and is a former collegiate basketball player. The best part of all of our staff is that they get along and understand all of young athletes.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

We funded our business in 2 ways. First we started our own corporation and with the corporation started a qualified 401k plan. With this 401k plan we were able to roll over old 401ks into our corporations plan. We were then able to issue stock to the plan and use the funds from the rollover as a down payment for Redline. This is also known as a ROBS method transaction.

We used an SBA loan for the rest of the funding. Due to COVID this was harder than expected because banks’ risk tolerance was not very high at the time.

Redline Athletics – Sutton Square has a monthly news letter. We also post regularly on Facebook and Instagram to keep our current clients up to date and to highlight different athletes achievements.

To foster brand loyalty we are all about customer satisfaction and having a relationship with every athlete and their family. Meghan, our director of business, goes out of her way to talk to all of the athletes and their parents. She has the ability to connect with everyone!

We also like to give back to our loyal customers with different raffles and give aways. We are very generous with referrals and are currently offering a $50 gift card to any client who refers a new member and a custom set of Nikes to any athlete who brings in a set amount of friends for free trials!
