We recently connected with Michael Ford and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
COVID 19 was one obstacle we had to face that was very difficult, however I believe we navigated the pandemic extremely well. We were able to keep most of our clients, and in fact grew during the pandemic and not once did we have a COVID 19 outbreak in our facility. We adapted by having online, and in person workouts.
We also had a flood due to freezing cold temperatures that caused a pipe to burst in our facility. We had to deal with the damages ourselves and did our best to quickly renovate and get back open. During our closure we put everyones memberships on hold and hosted outdoor workouts at the park that were a great success due to our amazing community of members!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have been doing martial arts since I was 5 years old. I got into personal training in 2011, and started doing kickboxing fitness training shortly after. A few things I really love about combining martial arts and fitness, is the results it gets clients, and that clients can always learn and progress! Many of my clients have been with me for over 5 years now!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for anyone who walks through the door. Walking into a fitness or martial arts facility can be a very intimidating event, so we have done our best to break down those stereotypes and make anyone feel welcome in our community. We have built a 5star reputation on Facebook and Google and I truly believe that is because of the culture and community we have created at Surge Kickboxing
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Luckily our business is a service based business, so we are face to face with our clients 2-3 times a week. We also have awesome community events like Boxing N Beers and Kickball. We do our best to make sure that everyone at our business feels included because they are all a huge part of our business!
