We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Connolly a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Our entire brand is built on innovation, everything from our patented One Sheet design to the details like our custom wash bags included with each order is driven by the idea that everyday products should be reimagined to make life simpler and better. Too often innovation is portrayed as something reserved for tech billionaires or flashy startups, but in reality, every small business owner has to innovate constantly to survive and thrive in today’s competitive market.
For example, when we developed The One Sheet, it wasn’t just about creating another piece of bedding—it was about solving a real, universal frustration. We designed a sheet that combines the fitted and top sheet into one seamless product that actually stays in place, is easier to make and assemble, and is made from sustainable bamboo. That took countless iterations, feedback sessions, and even rethinking how a ‘basic’ product could function in people’s daily lives.
That spirit of innovation carries into the smaller details too—like the wash bag we created to protect our sheets and extend their life. It may seem small, but to us it’s innovation on both the macro and micro levels—rethinking not just the hero product, but the full experience of owning it. I believe that’s what real innovation looks like: practical solutions that meaningfully improve people’s lives.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“I started Sova in 2020 after years of restless sleeping, constantly battling with my fitted sheet coming loose from the mattress. Growing up with a military father, I was raised on ‘hospital corners,’ so a well-made bed has always been part of my DNA. But every morning, I’d wake up to find my top sheet bunched on the floor and my fitted sheet slipping off the mattress. I kept thinking, there has to be a better way.
That frustration was the seed that became The One Sheet- a patented design that combines the fitted sheet and the top sheet into one. It’s a simple idea, but one that completely reimagines how we experience bedding. No more wrestling with corners, no more messy, tangled top sheets, and no more wasted time making the bed. On top of that, we chose 100% viscose from organic bamboo for its breathability, softness, and sustainability because innovation should make life better in more ways than one.
At Sova, we don’t just sell sheets, we solve a problem that almost everyone has lived with but accepted as ‘normal.’ We’re proud to challenge that status quo. How’d you meet your business partner?
Garrett and I were high school lacrosse teammates! We have been friends since before then. After high school I became a petroleum engineer and Garrett became a marketer/media buyer. We both had the missing pieces the other needed and we have been rolling ever since!

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We’ve found the best way to build real loyalty is by starting with the product itself. When customers receive something that not only meets expectations but exceeds them—like the comfort, durability, and functionality of The One Sheet—it naturally builds trust. People can feel the difference right away, and that quality is what brings them back and gets them talking to friends and family about us.
On top of that, we put a huge emphasis on customer service. We see every question, email, or piece of feedback as an opportunity to connect with our customers and show them they’re valued. Whether it’s making exchanges easy, responding quickly, or going the extra mile to solve a problem, we want people to feel that we’re approachable and that we truly care about their experience.
