Michael, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

I knew that I wanted to sing since I was 4 years old. I heard Alicia Keys song “Fallin” I wanted to sing and play the piano. Once I learned about Michael Jackson, I taught myself how to dance and decided I wanted to be a full on entertainer. My mom put me in modeling and since I was a child, I’ve only ever wanted to do things in entertainment, especially involving music.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello! My name is Michael Carter but I go by Carter, with my stage name being C4rter (pronounced Carter). I am a singer and dancer from Paterson, NJ! I have been releasing music since 2020 and I am proud of all the places my journey has taken me so far. I got into music at 4 years old, with me wanting to sing and play the piano. I started teaching myself dance at 8 until I started taking class as a teenager. I am currently self teaching myself piano to better my producing.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I started singing at 4 but my mom thought is was just a phase so I never got vocal lessons. Fast forward to 15 years old, my voice changed and I didn’t know how to handle it. I got told I couldn’t sing and it hurt my confidence. I started focusing solely on dancing but I was never completely happy when I booked jobs performing with artist. I would randomly write a song, or pick up my microphone and sing a song and I felt the wholesomeness fill me. I went to Coachella in 2018 and it reminded that I always wanted to be an entertainer singing on stage. Ever since then I haven’t let other’s opinions of me distract from where my heart guides me.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

A particular goal I want to accomplish is selling out tours around the world, and my music being another thread to connect people of different backgrounds to become connected.
