We recently connected with Michael Campo and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
As videographer and filmmaker for over 15 years I was searching for a new creative outlet. Something I could sink my teeth into and really explore that would give me joy and a sense of accomplishement. This past January I decided it was time, and I bought myself a camera for photography and began reading, learning, and practicing the craft.
At first it was constant flow of YouTube content to better understand the technical side of things. With a background in film, specifically documentary films, I wanted to challenge myself to see if it was feasible to tell the story in one frame.
It wasn’t long before people started asking me if I would take pictures for them, and that’s how it became a business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up in New York I moved to Brooklyn and started a small film company with a few partners. After some time, and some success, the partnership began to fizzle with each of us wanting to do our own thing. As we went our separate ways I continued working as a filmmaker for a variety of companies and to this day my main source of business operations is in providing professional video content to clients.
However photography, has really opened a wide array of doors that I never imagined it could. As this journey continues I’m so excited with every new client I meet, company I work with, and individual I get to take photos of.
I believe that my background in film is what separates me from other photographers. My foundation when it comes to art is storytelling and using photography to accomplish that goal can be challenging, but it’s something I absolutely love!
Living in Tampa has been a huge change for me, and a great change. I am proud of what I have accomplished, where I came from, and the scars I wear are a badge of courage that has led me to this moment in my life today. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
My view on NFT’s is that it’s the future way to authenticate digital art and rights in the future, and when I say future this technology is coming and it’s right around the corner. As AI, and tech gets smarter and smarter with copies of originals, deepfakes, and everything we don’t see coming, I think NFT’s will be used to secure ownership over originality.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There is a particular goal and mission driving my creativity. I have things I want to say, and ideas I want to share. But even more powerful than that, is giving others a platform to tell their stories. As an artist it’s my job to make audiences feel something and that’s what makes good art.
