We were lucky to catch up with Michael Angelo Washington recently and have shared our conversation below.

Michael , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?

Three years ago, my wife and I made the strategic decision to merge our professional endeavors. With over a decade of experience as a hair designer and her exclusive dedication to the craft, she established a studio space tailored to her expertise. Meanwhile, leveraging my extensive time spent behind the sewing machine, I specialized in crafting custom clothing and providing alteration services from a dedicated space within our home. Our collaborative efforts extended to marketing our creations through platforms such as Instagram and our website.

Recognizing an unmet need within our community, we identified an opportunity to integrate hair fashion seamlessly into our existing enterprise.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

As a seasoned sustainable designer based in Indianapolis, Indiana, I bring over a decade of expertise to my craft. Specializing in the art of upcycling and rejuvenating thrifted and vintage garments, I breathe new life into each piece, transforming them into unique, one-of-a-kind wearable art.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

Earlier in life especially growing up in Indiana I did not have any guidance or an example of what this career would look like. There wasn’t anyone who could show me the ropes outside of after highschool I should go to college and study fashion. Which I did end up doing however I dropped out to the pick up odd jobs while still learning and homing my sewing technique.
