We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Micha’ Bridgeforth a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Micha’ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
On June 9,2021 at 11:16pm my Fiancé Tiara & I arrived to a state we’ve never been to. It was Texas and to my knowledge no one in my family has ever been to or lived there. What may sound crazy is Tiara and I only went off of Faith and pictures. We both felted called to move there. This included me leaving some things behind and being apart from my family. Taking that risk has helped me see that I am able to push myself past certain limits and that my faith in God grew. A car packed full of stuff we needed for our new place and a new puppy. Part of me felt excited for this new journey but another part of me was anxious. Moving far from my Grandma, my Dad, and my two Brothers weighed on me. I didn’t take the risk selfishly although I moved to Texas with a vision, Faith, and expectation. But what I wanted my family to know was that we could see more than just D.C. streets. Encouraging them encouraged me and just because my feet were plated in Texas we were still connected by our roots. Living in Texas didn’t turn out how I pictured but taking the risk was necessary. I’m no longer living there and to be honest sometimes I miss the beautiful sunsets, the huge family homes, the southern hospitality, and the nature. “A place don’t give you power” I heard that recently and it has helped me be peaceful about how things turned out. I am as blessed now, in Texas, in D.C. and wherever else I’m led to.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m often misjudged, misinterpreted, and misunderstood but that’s ok. I realize why it happens; I have many versions of me. I am Micha’ ( Mi-SHAY) the child of God, Cha’ who sometimes sing and dance, goofy and loving, spontaneously creative, and very humble spirited. I was born with many gifts and some things I picked up as skills along the way. In high school and a few years after that I noticed everyone was coming to me for advice or wanting to hear my opinion. So I kind of struggled with knowing what I wanted to do and who I wanted to become in life. Entrepreneur is a word I’ve always been curious about. I knew what it meant but didn’t know what it took. I don’t like to categorize myself because I know I’m blessed in so many areas. I truly feel warm when I encourage someone, not from an ego standpoint. Just knowing I used my energy to help someone who deserves a push or even enlightenment. So to my future followers, supporters, clients, customers, and maybe even friend. I want you to know that every platform or moment God bless me with I will shine my light and be an example of having Faith. We are all here to help each other. I’m focused on being obedient because I don’t know who I’ll be connected with. Hebrew 13:2 Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Hustle can’t get you into every room and saying you’re self-made isn’t true. I had to learn to seek the right things and that’s to be obedient. Being blessed and being a blessing is the level I want to be at in life. We all heard money don’t make you happy. Yet it shows how certain minority children are unable to afford what other children can. Or single moms are unable to feed their children healthy meals, because of their income. My point is money is a tool and a worldly resource. It should never be top priority for anything. Not for who you want to become in life. Not for what you hope to accomplish or the standard of how you view people. If you’re at a level where your resources can provide for others and you’re humble enough to do so. You understand the importance of generosity. Growing up my Dad always sent me these inspirational quotes or sayings that was related to what he wanted to teach me. So I’ve adapted that kind of mindset with explaining things. I want this to sink in “More money more purpose”

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Currently I’ve been reading Michelle Obama The Light We Carry. The book has definitely changed my thinking. It’s ok to walk in any room and know exactly who God called you to be. Without seeming arrogant or self centered. In the book she talks about many situations people face on a daily basis. It reminded me that we can all relate to someone. We have to look at people as humans and understand. We will all make mistakes, say the wrong thing, not completely heal from trauma, or simply don’t want to be bothered. She consistently emphasized in the book that through the craziness of life we can all be a shining light in someone else’s life. Also what stood out to me is that, she said people see her as this woman who always have everything together. When in reality she has a great team. This goes back to not being self-made. Even the most successful and accomplished people work alongside someone else. One day I hope we all wake up with the anticipation of shining our light. As the word says “Be like a breath of fresh air to others” Entrepreneurship isn’t just you working for yourself or by yourself. You need the support of others and sometimes advice.
