Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mich Nguyen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Mich thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I first started doing lashes in July 2017, I was a one-woman show, always on the move, driving from client to client with my whole set up in the trunk and my GPS guiding me to the next appointment. I was a mobile lash tech, hustling hard and showing up wherever my clients needed me. That’s where the name Lash N Dash Beauty was born. It perfectly captured what I was doing. Lashing and dashing from one place to the next.
Back then, it wasn’t about having the perfect studio or a cute setup; it was about the grind, the passion, and making sure every client felt confident and beautiful, no matter where they were. I was building something from the ground up, and the name just stuck.
As my clientele grew and word started spreading, I realized I had outgrown the mobile hustle. I was booked and busy, and it became clear that I needed a dedicated space. Not just for me, but for the experience I wanted to give every person who walked through my doors. So, I made the decision to stop doing mobile appointments and focus on creating a home base where Lash N Dash Beauty could truly evolve.
Even though I’m no longer “dashing” from house to house, the name still means everything to me. It’s a reminder of where I started and how far I’ve come. Lash N Dash Beauty isn’t just a brand. It’s a journey, one that began with a dream, a car full of supplies, and a heart full of hustle.
Mich , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Since the age of 15, I was bouncing from job to job, trying out different trade schools, and constantly searching for something that truly felt right. I was lost and I didn’t know what I wanted to do but deep down, I always knew I loved beauty. It was something that brought me joy ever since I was a kid, even if I didn’t realize then that it could turn into a career.
If you asked me 10 years ago where I’d be today, I never could’ve imagined this.
After leaving my last job, I made the decision to go on a 40-day trip with my family. It was a much-needed time with loved ones we don’t get to see often but it also meant coming home without a job. I knew I was taking a risk, but I don’t regret it.
When I returned, my bank account was in the negatives. I had no income, no plan, just a dream and a gut feeling. I asked my mom to lend me money to invest in a few lash training courses. At the same time, I got a job working at a restaurant while practicing my craft and slowly building a clientele on the side.
That season of life taught me real discipline. I would lash my friends and models late at night after my shifts or early in the morning before heading in. I knew I had to put in the work and stay consistent if I wanted to turn this into something real. Every set I did brought me closer to where I am now and looking back, I’m proud of every step.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that I built this business from absolutely nothing. No money, no clients, no connections. Just a vision, a work ethic, and a whole lot of faith. I created a brand that not only helps people feel beautiful, but also makes them feel seen, heard, and valued. The trust my clients put in me means everything, and knowing that I’ve been able to turn my passion into a space where others feel empowered, that’s what makes it all worth it.
Another big leap I made in my career was deciding to move to a completely new state and start over. I launched Dallas Beauty Haus with zero clients and no local presence. It was terrifying, but it also lit a fire in me.
Some people asked, “Why not just use Lash N Dash Beauty Dallas?” And the truth is, I wanted a fresh start. I wanted to show that starting over doesn’t have to be scary. It can be empowering. I wanted to prove to myself, and to others, that it’s okay to rebuild, to pivot, and to take a risk for something you believe in. That decision has been one of the most transformative parts of my journey.
Looking back, one thing that truly helped me through it all from starting out in July 2017 to where I am now was patience. Nothing happened overnight. There were seasons of slow growth, times when I questioned everything, and moments where it felt like I was putting in so much work with little return. But staying patient and trusting the process allowed me to grow not just as an artist, but as a businesswoman, too.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:
You don’t have to have it all figured out to start. You just have to start. Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s scary. Even if you have to begin again from scratch.
I’m living proof that with heart, hustle, and belief in your vision, you can rebuild, reinvent, and rise. No matter where you start from. So, if you’re thinking about taking that leap, do it. Start small, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to bet on yourself. You never know how far that first step can take you.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe what truly helped me build my reputation is my commitment to creativity, customization, and integrity in every client interaction. From day one, I understood that no two clients are the same and their lash sets shouldn’t be either. Every face is different, every eye shape is unique, and every client comes in with a different vision for how they want to look and feel when they leave. So rather than offering a “one size fits all” approach, I made it a priority to design each lash set in a way that enhances the client’s natural features, fits their lifestyle, and reflects their personal style.
I approach lashes like an art form. I take into account everything from their eye shape, lid space, and lash health, to their comfort level with volume or drama. Some clients want bold and fluffy; others want something barely noticeable but natural. I’ve always made sure to ask the right questions during consultations so I can truly understand what they’re hoping for not just visually, but how they want to feel walking out of the studio.
Beyond the creativity and technique, I think being genuinely honest and transparent has gone a long way in building trust. I don’t upsell just to make a quick profit. I educate my clients on what works best for them, even if it means suggesting a lighter set or not doing a service if I think it’ll damage their natural lashes. That honesty builds long-term relationships, and clients appreciate knowing I always have their best interest in mind.
Lastly, I focus a lot on first impressions and overall experience. From the moment someone messages me or walks through the door, I want them to feel seen, welcomed, and taken care of. Cleanliness, professionalism, good vibes, and genuine connection all play a huge role. I want every client to feel like they’re not just getting lashes. They’re investing in self-care with someone who truly cares about them.
All those small details add up. When people leave feeling beautiful and confident, they talk about it, post about it, and come back. That’s how I built my reputation. Not overnight, but consistently, with intention and heart.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One of the books that influenced me deeply is “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. It helped me understand how small, consistent changes in my routines could lead to big results. Not just in business, but in my mindset and lifestyle. This book is all about how small, consistent actions lead to massive results over time. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There’s always something to do, and burnout can creep in fast. What this book taught me is the power of tiny improvements and discipline. Instead of trying to change everything at once or chase unrealistic goals, I started focusing on small daily habits that improved my mindset, my business, and even my client relationships. That consistency gave me more peace, more clarity, and more control over my time. Which is gold when you’re managing your own business. I highly recommend reading this book!
