Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Micah B. . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Micah , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I grew up in Jackson, Mississippi where History runs deep. I was always involved in playing music in a punk rock bands and being around creative minds. I always knew I’d end up doing something creative.
I’ve always been intrigued and interested in Theme Parks, Film and History. When I was a kid I was always on the hunt to learn the History or Behind the Scenes of Theme Parks and Films. I would find any VHS or DVD that had “Special Features” so maybe I could learn about Filming Locations or anything in that realm.
When I would visit cities on tour with my band or theme parks on an off day – I would point out Filming Locations and many hidden references and secrets in the parks!
A lot of folks told me I should write a book.
Fast forward to 2015, I started becoming interested in doing a Blog or a YouTube Channel where I could show or discuss Theme Park History and Secrets. I also decided I would show Filming Locations as well, I grabbed my phone and started making short videos. I put them online and World of Micah was born. I have been lucky enough to do certain bucket list items such as being the first person to ever film inside of the Boggs House used in Edward Scissorhands. I did an almost complete locations video for Hocus Pocus as well. I have been invited to many events for Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and many Conventions throughout the years!
Micah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I travel around filming everything and anything I find interesting –from theme parks to abandoned urban exploring. If you enjoy learning more about Disney history, tips & secrets or a fan of Walt Disney World nostalgia you have come to the right place. I also enjoy showing Universal Studios history and taking a look of what’s left of from classic attractions like JAWS and Back to the Future. More of an Urban Exploring fan? I travel around Central Florida and film everything from abandoned Toys “R” Us stores to abandoned attractions. I’m also a major Movie Buff! I have found the filming locations from such films as Edward Scissorhands, Halloween (1978) & Hocus Pocus!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The best way for me to build an audience on YouTube is to be consistent on releasing new material and to be my genuine self. In this day and age, most people know if you’re portraying a character or not. If having a different personality online is your stick, then by all means do that but I feel most people want to see “real” personalities.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My channel is based on nostalgia with a little bit of what’s new. My followers usually are the ones who are interested in the past BUT also want to know what is current in the subject. I try to discuss topics that are relevant but still resort back to history and nostalgia
