We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Micaela Dartson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Micaela below.
Micaela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’d had a love of writing short stories and poems since 6th grade and did such for our school’s publication, “The Crusader.” Fast forward to college, I wrote a critical essay on ‘The Glass Menagerie” and my English professor was beyond impressed with my writing. I then tried to double major in Biology Pre-Medicine and English but the science labs were conflicting with the English courses and I had to stick with the pre-medicine curriculum. During my residency, I began writing and realized I had a true flair flair for story telling and my creative passion soared.
Micaela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My artistic journey commenced with writing novels and then I learned the art of screenwriting. After writing more than a dozen feature films and having some success in contests, I felt the next step in my journey should be to write and produce short films to garner more attention to my talents. I then created the literary company; A Little Texas Entertainment Company, LLC and a film company; Two Chix Flix, LLC, began networking with other creatives pooling resources and talents and began producing films and music videos. My networking lent me to associate with various industry related organizations but the most rewarding has been my membership with Ladies in Film and Television where I currently serve as President. We aim to cultivate and foster the underserved voices of our members to help make their projects outstanding from inception to production.
As well, I produce two podcasts, One is Purgatory With Dr.. Micaela and the other is Two Chix and Stix which is an extension of our boutique cigar company, The Pink Smoke Cigar Company, LLC where we talk shop about cigars and highlight and interview African American entrepreneurs. There is also an episodic food and culture show integrated with Pink Smoke. The major takeaway here is that networking and even bartering services to allow others to shine where attaining industry goals may otherwise seem impossible is possible with the organizations I own and support. I want to see everyone win.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I’m a content creator and have a vast number of shows that are currently being developed. I aim to own and operate the most significant production company on the planet. The value of what I create drives me to be relentless in my pursuit.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
What’s most rewarding for me is the feedback I receive from reviews, emails and compliments in general from strangers who are familiar with my work. The fact that what I do truly entertains others lets me know my passion isn’t for naught.
