Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mica Holmstead. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Mica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The name of my business is “Lola’s Lines” after my little girl Lola who passed away in august of 2020. I’ve always loved art and actually (unprofessionally) tattooed a handful of friends in Highschool (2017) but never thought I would take that up as a career.
When my daughter passed away I was in need of something to keep my mind healthy and busy while also in need of a job. I thought I might as well give tattooing a try and I’m so glad I did. It is my passion!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always loved art and started unprofessionally tattooing my friends in High school about 7 years ago! After graduation I got my CNA and did that for 4 years! Then met my now husband and had our daughter Lola. After her passing I was in a terrible place and knew I needed something that I loved to keep me busy. I didn’t really ever put any thought into professionally tattooing until my husband pushed me to try. I’m so thankful he did- tattooing truly is my passion and naming my business ‘Lola’s Lines’ after our daughter has brought me a lot of happiness. One thing that is very special to me in my business is that a lot of people get tattoos in remembrance of passed loved ones and it really is an amazing thing to be able to give people that in remembrance of my daughter as well.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing that comes with being an artist is making people happy with my work! Sometimes in the art industry it can be hard to have motivation to keep going. It’s hard to make a living with art. But when I get to give my clients the art they want and see how happy it makes them, it makes all the hard work worth it.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Sometimes people think just because they can’t afford to buy products or services from a small business that they can’t support them right now. There are so many little things besides that you can do to support! A shoutout on social media, showing off products or services you’ve gotten in the past or even just telling a friend about the small business is just as effective!
Even something as little as liking or commenting on our social media posts makes us business owners just as appreciative as any money spent on our products and services!
