We recently connected with Mic Most and have shared our conversation below.
Mic, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In life, some moments demand audacity—the kind that forces you to confront fear and uncertainty, knowing that the stakes couldn’t be higher. That moment came when I chose to represent myself in two family civil suits: a contentious child custody battle and a divorce proceeding. Standing on the precipice of these challenges, I understood that my decision to go pro se—without formal legal representation—was both a monumental risk and a leap of faith.
The backstory begins with a profound sense of duty. I had built my life around being a father and ensuring my children’s well-being, but circumstances threatened to upend the stability and future I had worked tirelessly to provide. Financial constraints meant hiring legal counsel would stretch resources thin, but it wasn’t just the cost that weighed on me. I believed sincerely in my ability to advocate for my family with the raw, unfiltered authenticity that no outsider, however skilled, could replicate. This was more than a legal strategy; it was about fighting for what was right with every fiber of my being.
The preparation was grueling. By day, I balanced the demands of fatherhood, academia, and work; by night, I delved into the complexities of family law. I became a voracious student of legal texts, combing through statutes, case law, and procedural guides. My desk was a battlefield of annotated pages and highlighted briefs, each representing hours of meticulous effort. I had no formal training but had resolve and a willingness to learn.
When I entered the courtroom, I stepped onto an uncharted stage where the stakes were everything I held dear. The air was thick with formality, and every word I spoke felt like a gamble. Judges, attorneys, and clerks—all professionals—observed me with an initial skepticism that I could feel in my bones. Nevertheless, I knew my case intimately and wielded that knowledge with precision.
There was one moment that crystallized the risk I had taken. During the custody hearing, I presented a final order I had drafted—a document that had consumed weeks of research and revision. As the judge reviewed it, his furrowed brow softened. Then, almost incredulously, he remarked, “I’ve never seen anything like this.” Those words became a defining moment of validation. He signed the order as presented, granting me the outcome I had sought for my family.
The risk I took was monumental, and its success transformed my family’s future trajectory and my sense of capability. I learned that courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to face it head-on, armed with preparation, determination, and an unshakable belief in the cause.
This experience continues to resonate deeply in my life. It sharpened my skills in legal reasoning and advocacy. It deepened my resolve to pursue a career in International Law, where I aspire to champion justice for those whose voices often go unheard. Most of all, it reaffirmed my guiding principle: We grow not in the shadow of safety but in the light of risk, where we must stretch ourselves to rise above our circumstances.
Taking this risk wasn’t just about winning a case; it was about proving to myself and my children that we can defy the odds and create a better future with resilience and purpose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Micah J. Moore – PKA Mic Most – a widowed father of four and a dynamic professional whose life is fueled by purpose, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to creating a positive impact. My path is unconventional, shaped by personal experiences, academic pursuits, and creative endeavors. I have dedicated my life to balancing intellectual growth, artistic expression, and service to others while navigating fatherhood’s profound challenges and joys.
How I Got Here: A Journey Through Passion and Purpose
My entry into my various industries—personal training, music production, web design, and more—was not a straight line but a mosaic of passion and necessity. I began as a self-taught music producer, DJ, and vocalist, driven by a love for storytelling through sound. Music became my sanctuary, a way to channel emotion and inspire connection. Over time, I launched my independent record label, which now serves as a platform for my works and emerging artists seeking creative freedom.
In parallel, I cultivated a career in health and wellness, becoming a certified personal trainer and launching a concierge personal training company. My mission was clear: to empower individuals to reclaim their health, confidence, and strength through personalized fitness solutions that fit their lifestyles. My work in nutrition education further amplified this mission, allowing me to address the root causes of health disparities with empathy and expertise.
As the digital landscape evolved, so did my skill set. I established a web design and marketing firm to help small businesses, creatives, and entrepreneurs tell compelling stories. This work combines my love for design with my belief in the transformative power of visibility.
What I Provide and the Problems I Solve
In each of my ventures, the common thread is service. Whether it is creating music that resonates emotionally, designing user-friendly websites that amplify a client’s brand, or developing fitness programs tailored to individual needs, my focus is on delivering solutions that elevate others. My services include:
Creative Works: Original music production, live DJ performances, and vocal artistry that inspire and connect.
Fitness and Wellness: Concierge personal training and nutrition education to help clients achieve their health goals.
Web Design and Marketing: Custom websites and digital marketing strategies empower brands to thrive in a competitive market.
The problems I solve are varied but deeply human, from helping someone feel confident in their skin to giving a voice to an artist who wants their story heard or enabling a business owner to expand their reach. My ability to approach challenges with empathy and creativity sets me apart.
What Sets Me Apart
My ability to bring a deeply personal, human touch to everything I do distinguishes me. My diverse experiences as a father, widower, entrepreneur, and scholar profoundly shape my work. I see the world through a lens of resilience and connection, which allows me to approach problems holistically and authentically. My clients and collaborators often tell me they appreciate my ability to listen deeply, understand their needs, and deliver results that exceed expectations.
I am most proud of my ability to turn adversity into opportunity. Losing a daughter, my wife, and my fiancée were devastating chapters of my life, but they became the fuel for my mission to leave the world better than I found it. Every venture I undertake reflects that purpose—whether it is helping someone transform their health, create meaningful art, or build a brand that embodies their values.
What I Want You to Know
At the core of everything I do is a simple belief: We all can create, inspire, and transform. My brand is more than a collection of services; it’s an ethos of resilience, creativity, and service. Whether you’re a client, collaborator, or supporter, you’ll find in me a partner dedicated to helping you realize your vision and overcome obstacles with courage and ingenuity.
Ultimately, my work is more than delivering a product or service; it’s about forging connections, fostering growth, and making a meaningful difference. I aim to build that legacy for myself, my children, and everyone whose lives I have the privilege to touch.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience has been the cornerstone of my journey, forged through a series of profound losses that reshaped my life and sense of purpose. In my early 20s, I faced the unimaginable loss of my daughter—a heartbreak that left me grappling with grief far before I had the tools to understand it fully. Years later, I endured the passing of both my wife and fiancée, each loss threatening to unravel the life I had built. However, through these experiences, I discovered an inner strength that transformed pain into purpose and adversity into action.
The loss of my wife was a turning point in my life. As a father, I had to navigate the delicate balance of raising my children while shouldering the weight of grief. In these moments of quiet determination, I decided to pursue academic excellence to honor her memory and secure a brighter future for my family. I enrolled at UMGC, diving into a double major in Psychology and History, with a minor in Criminology. These fields resonated deeply with my desire to understand the human experience and to contribute meaningfully to the world. My academic pursuits were not just intellectual endeavors but a testament to resilience and a commitment to building a legacy for my children.
This sense of purpose grew as I confronted new challenges. When my fiancée passed away, I could have quickly retreated into despair. Instead, I leaned into the resilience I had cultivated, turning my focus to long-term aspirations that align with my values. During this time, my desire to pursue a career in law crystallized. Specifically, I am driven to study International/Comparative Law and Human Rights Law, focusing on combating human trafficking and advocating for justice on a global scale. My academic foundation in psychology and history and my lived experiences have given me a unique lens to approach these critical issues.
One of the most vivid demonstrations of my resilience occurred during two family civil suits—a child custody case and a divorce proceeding—where I represented myself pro se. With no formal legal training, I immersed myself in the complexities of family law, preparing meticulously to advocate for my family’s future. The courtroom became a proving ground for my determination and capability, and the victories I achieved were not just legal triumphs but also affirmations of my ability to rise against overwhelming odds.
For me, resilience is more than just bouncing back—it is about using life’s challenges as a catalyst for growth, transformation, and impact. My journey through loss and rebuilding has shaped every aspect of who I am today. Whether in my academic pursuits, professional endeavors, or role as a father, I strive to turn pain into purpose and adversity into action.
As I embark on my legal career, I aim to advocate for those whose voices are often silenced. My story is not defined by the losses I’ve faced but by the strength I’ve cultivated in their aftermath—a strength I carry forward to build a future rooted in justice, compassion, and resilience.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Supporting artists and creatives requires a collective effort to value their contributions as essential to society’s fabric. I believe fostering a thriving creative ecosystem involves three core pillars: accessibility, sustainability, and respect.
Accessibility: Removing Barriers to Creativity
The first step is to make the tools and resources necessary for creative expression accessible to everyone. This includes affordable education in the arts, access to public spaces for creative use, and programs that introduce young people to various forms of artistic expression. Creativity flourishes when people feel empowered to explore their talents without prohibitive financial or institutional barriers. Public investment in community art programs, creative incubators, and mentorship opportunities is essential for nurturing the next generation of artists.
Sustainability: Supporting Artists as Professionals
For artists to thrive, society must recognize and support their work as a legitimate profession. This means implementing fair compensation standards and creating funding opportunities such as grants, residencies, and fellowships that allow creatives to focus on their craft without the constant stress of financial instability. Tax incentives for patrons and businesses that support the arts can also help, as can platforms that connect artists directly with audiences. By building infrastructure that supports creative careers, we ensure that art remains a sustainable pursuit rather than a luxury.
Respect: Valuing Creative Contributions
The most vital step is fostering a cultural shift in how society views creativity. Art is often dismissed as secondary to more “practical” pursuits, but truthfully, it is the soul of our shared humanity. Artists and creatives shape our worldviews, spark dialogue, and inspire action. Society must actively engage with and celebrate creative works, from attending performances and exhibitions to integrating art into everyday life through public installations and collaborations with other industries. Education systems should prioritize arts curricula on par with STEM subjects, teaching students that creativity is a vital skill applicable to every field.
A Vision for the Future
A thriving creative ecosystem benefits everyone, not just artists. It creates vibrant communities, fosters innovation, and promotes cultural exchange. To support this vision, individuals can play their part by mindfully consuming art—whether buying from independent creators, sharing their work, or simply expressing appreciation. Governments and institutions can advocate for funding, equitable policies, and broader resource access. Businesses can integrate creativity into their operations, supporting local artists and collaborating with them to inspire innovation.
Ultimately, the most profound way to support artists is to value their work not just as entertainment but as a powerful force for change, connection, and understanding in society. When we nurture creativity, we invest in a richer, more empathetic, and more inspired world.
