Miaya , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.

My mother has always gave me the space to be creative, and to have an open mind. I always had a different style, and my mom always embraced that. I love her for that!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Born Miaya Erin Hodges, in Jacksonville, Florida on March 17, 1996. At the age of 10, my mom moved our family to Houston, Texas. Growing up I didn’t have a lot, so I had to learn how to be cute and thrifty. Which helped me to learn to be more creative. As I entered high-school I developed the love of make up. After a depression stage, my mom told me that she was going to invest in me, and that I was going to be a make up artist. And I did.

EnhancedByMiaya was born. I just naturally enhance what God has already done for my clients. I love making people feel beautiful. That is what I thrive off of. I’m proud of how far my business has came. I remember praying for clients everyday, crying and being discouraged. I believe that if you operate in the gift that God has given you, it’ll come naturally, not fast but naturally. It was a lot of work that I have put into my business, I wat my future clients to know that I am dedicated to making my clients feel and look their best. What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Self Doubt. I had to learn that you might not be everyone’s favorite, and that’s okay. You have to learn to be confident in yourself and your artistry. Everything else doesn’t matter. I know that it can be easy to get caught up into what your peers think, but you have to learn that your journey is only yours! In other words, respect others, and put positive thoughts into your head.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I built my following with straight from my real followers. No hash tags, just natural support, I feel like that’s a way to know your audience and to know who has been with since the start,
