Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miami Knight. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Miami, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Miami’s beloved son Ty-Key, was shot in an incident that also claimed the life of his friend. Though Ty-Key survived, he lived with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and survivor’s guilt. Five years after his attempted murder, in 2017 Ty-Key died by gun suicide.
A year after Ty-Key’s death, Miami became a Certified Master Grief Coach, during her healing process she was initiated into Shamanism becoming a Wisdom Practitioner, Reiki Master and Master Meditation Guide. In 2020 Miami received her MA in Grief Counselor and as a Specialist with theoretical knowledge and skill in professional grief training and bereavement recovery.
She authored The Key Process: A Grief Guide to Mastering Spiritual Healing. She’s the Executive Producer and Host of Grief Talk on It’s the Miami Knight Show. She also serves on the National Council for Behavioral Health as a Mental Health First Aider and trained as a QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper. In her spare time, she works with local and national gun violence and suicide prevention organizations to advocate for its causes. She’s also recently certified as a Sacred Sexuality Coach brining healing to women suffering through trauma.

Miami, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m most proud of my ability to transition through some of the most difficult times in my life, with grace and knowing- at times I wasn’t my best, but with my daily spiritual practice, I’m able to appreciate my life-altering experiences and how my calling is to help others transform their grief into action.
Our biggest accomplishments: Client’s results. Waking up each day feeling grateful for the journey ahead is an absolute joy. Looking back now, knowing I’ve done my absolute best to be an exceptional example for others as I witness their healing journey progress. Being a witness as they manage difficult goals, while they decide to do something different as they implement needed changes to achieve their desired outcomes has been the absolute best experience. That’s what keeps a smile on my face as they gracefully continue with ways to grieve well.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Even though the coaching core values framework will remain the same, there are new fundamentals on the horizon to support the coachee/mentee, and clients as a whole person. There’s such a high demand for mental health professionals specializing in grief recovery during these difficult times.
The greatest part about my backstory is exploring the root causes of avoidances and emotional blockages along my journey, this has been the catalyst for me to share with my tribe.
Which has proven transformational skills not only in the client’s lifelong process but also to include career and leadership development. Proactively assisting in one’s mental health, to ensure inclusion, and belonging, and I’m so very happy to be a part of that.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic was tough for everyone, transitioning to all virtual services was a lesson I had to learn all on my own. Having to adapt in fundamental ways because in-person activities was no longer safe and because participants needs changed. Learning how to operate solely online was very challenging, but it allowed me to learn more about my business and what changes were absolutely necessary for us to thrive. Pivoting allowed us to think out of the box, to create, and strategize more ways to implement brilliant ideas to scale our business.
