We were lucky to catch up with Mia White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I lost my brother at a young age and my parents didn’t know anything about life insurance nor had the funds to bury him, so a lot of the burdens fell down on me at the age of 16. I going to create a life insurance awareness where people understand the true meaning of life insurance. Life insurance is what it is “life insurance” while we are living. There are so many agents that’s feeding ONLY death benefits but leaving the main benefit out which is the living benefits. So if you have a policy that only comes with death benefits then you have the wrong policy. When life happens and I’m not speaking death, but when life happens such as a critical illness, critical injury, chronic illness and terminal illness, what do you have to fall back on? Yes, you can say I have some money saved in the bank but how long is that going to last if you’re in the hospital and your bills don’t stop? With having the right life insurance policy with living benefits as well as death benefits, then you are able to pull 75-90% of your policy amount out while you are living. So having the right policy will protect you while you are living and heaven forbid when its your time to transition, your family is protected from your lost. Also, life insurance has been a sacred cash cow for over 107 years. They have grandfather the tax codes so that you can accumulate and max out your cash value in your life insurance company with out paying taxes or being penalize from borrowing against your money. Don’t fall asleep on life insurance when it is a cash vehicle!

Mia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I am a single mother of three amazing children, who I got all out of high school into college. My oldest Glenn is now a senior attending Louisiana College. My middle child Jonathan is a sophomore attending Stephen F. Austin and my last baby Tamia is a freshman now attending Sam Houston. Seeing and helping my kids to achieve these goal is the most proud moment of my life as a mother. I am an insurance broker who does all types of insurance, like Medicare, Health Care, Annuities but my specialty is Life Insurance. My purpose is to bring life insurance awareness and to educate people on what life insurance really is and how it can be used as a cash vehicle if done right. I also branded myself into life insurance by writing “The Book on Life Insurance” so yes, I am an author as well. I call myself a serial entrepreneur because I also have my marbles in other buckets. So beside from insurance, I’m a notary, I have my own wine brand, and I’m in the middle of launching my clothing/purse and shoe line. I also have other things coming up in the pipeline so stay tune to that as well.
So back in 2018 life insurance found me, I remember getting a call from AIL wanting me to come in for an interview. When I arrived they had us all in a big room full of people hyped up and excited about how much money they made in a week. At that time I was like ok, I like this but what’s the catch. Eventually I found out the catch behind the cheering and clapping and all the excitement. Now when companies says that you’re independent but yet trying to tell you when to come in, when to call and only able to sell there products and nothing else, then you are captive to that company. Now if you know me, you know I don’t like to be told what to do or how to do. Plus I didn’t like how we were trained to treat our members, it was like we were harassing them. We had to take at least 7 no’s before backing up from the sell. Another thing I didn’t like is that whoever you wrote a policy on you’re not their agent because they going to have a different agent to call them the next month to upsell them on more life insurance. I didn’t agree with their concept, so I knew it was time for me to go. If I’m going to be you’re agent, I want you to have the right policy, making sure you’re protected the right way and doing my best by you. I have learned if you serve and take care of people right then God will take care of you, and that is what I stand on!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Well I’m actually pivoting right now! The company I had my license under, has open my eyes in a good way to let me know I didn’t have control over my money and that they did. Now before agreeing to work with this company. I asked them would there be a problem if I had other companies I work with, remember I also do Medicare and Health. The person I interviewed with said no that I am independent to do what I want, which I’m finding out that was a lie. Now I was with the company for two years and the moment I started I was the top Life Insurance agent to write the most policies in the company for 2020 and 2021. Within 2 years I wrote over 200 policies and had over a million under asset protections but with those type of numbers that doesn’t mean anything when you are not in control over your money. Long story short, that company saw my picture in a different insurance company and locked me out of my portal, calendar, schedule and everything with no explanation or a reason why. I had people calling me needing their money, I had appointments schedule to put them on life insurance but I got completely shut down. I had to pivot and put my license with an different company so I could start writing policies again but it was a process I had to go through. The crazy part is not having income coming in for 3 months but still having bills that wont stop. Yes, that was the hardest 3 months and I’m still feeling if but when one door close you best believe another one will open. I’m just grateful that this company did what they did to me right now with only 200 members versus 2000 members. Another sad part, I have to start all over again and leave my book of business and start from scratch. The lesson that I had to learn is make sure you have control over your money and if you were to leave the company that your book of business goes with you. So even though I had a minor set back, I know God is preparing me for a big come back and what that company thought they were taking away from me is acutely going to multiply even greater, so thank you for opening my eyes.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
So a lesson I had to learn is if you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go further go with a team. I’ve been used to doing things by myself for the longest, keep in mind I am a single mother of three. I’ve been mommy and daddy at the same time not able to depend of their father’s for nothing. I’ve program myself to not depend on anyone until one of my business partner came into my office and had a sit down heart to heart talk with me. If it had not been for Roy Johnson being real and not sugar coating anything to me and explaining to me to stop taking the man’s role and be a lady to allow people to come into my life to help me, I would still be doing the same thing. Its like you don’t know what you don’t know until someone bring it to your attention. So learning how to trust in people and also depend on someone else is a learning process that in learning all over again. Giving up that independence and relaying on your team to help take you further is different, although you work for yourself but you don’t work alone is a wonderful thing.
