We were lucky to catch up with Mia Muhyee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I actually never intended to be an entrepreneur. By the time I was 22 I had already had over 40 jobs. From retail to restaurants – you name it, I’ve done it. In college I would often work 2 or more jobs at once, and I always made videos for different businesses to make extra money on the side. When Covid hit, so did the demand for everything digital. I fully transitioned into a social media content creator, running social media accounts for my clients and creating all their content monthly. It wasn’t always easy, I worked a lot and I sacrificed a lot.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Mia Muhyee and I am the CEO and Founder of Five Pillar Productions. We specialize in creating content strategies for business that will help them build a trustworthy social media presence. We also create a variety of digital services such as e-courses and websites that can help businesses stay competitive online. I love that we get to grow with other passionate entrepreneurs and business owners. Whether they want to keep a polished corporate aesthetic or give us full creative range, we have something for everyone.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve grown several social media accounts for my clients, but people who didn’t know me would always ask “if you’re so good at what you do, why don’t you have thousands of followers.” To be honest, social media is very time consuming and strategic – especially when it comes to business. I understand that, that’s why I do what I do. I’ve always focused on growing my clients, so I never took the time to prioritize my personal social media. I created a strategy for my TikTok and grew over 20,000 in less than a month just to show what consistency will do!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
You have to find something that you are obsessed with and make it your career. It goes so far beyond discipline or motivation at that point. I wake up every day with energy and excitement because I’m so grateful that I get to create for a living.
