We recently connected with Mia Morrow and have shared our conversation below.
Mia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
When the pandemic hit, I made the very hard decision to leave my previous job of 7 years. It was definitely one of those now or never moments because I always knew I wanted to start something of my own, but never had the chance to take the leap. There were so many ideas that were considered in the beginning. From food trucks, to hot dog stands, or sandwich trailers. But after a good friend asked me to make a special dinner for their partner, I knew a personal chef business would encompass all the things I love to do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up cooking with my family for Sunday dinners every week and in turn that instilled a love for food and cooking in me at an early age. After graduating from culinary school, I worked as a corporate chef for 7 years and learned so much about how I like to cook during my time there. And now, with Cheffed Up, I’m able to offer so many options. I prepare in-home, multi-course dinners, make charcuterie and brunch boards, and also serve food at a wonderful bookstore bar located in the Crossroads District of Kansas City called Afterword Tavern & Shelves. The cocktails are expertly crafted and I build my menus seasonally around their extensive drink selection.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I participated in the Grilled Cheese & Mac Fest back in 2021, and it really helped me find out just how far my limits could be pushed. I boiled noodles and made enough mac sauce to hand out 2000+ samples to hungry patrons. From Friday morning all the way to Saturday night, I worked non-stop, basically covered in cheese the whole time. Big shout out to my friends Clare and Ruben for their incredibly hard work – I wouldn’t have made it through without them!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I’d have to say the thing that has helped the most has been word of mouth from friends, family and clients who have utilized my services as well. I can’t tell you how much their support has meant to me since opening my business!
