We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mia’ Monique a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mia’, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Being from Memphis, Tennessee, a place often perceived as challenging., a lot of people there really don’t have that drive to chase their dreams. So when the opportunity came for me to move out of Memphis to Atlanta and follow my dreams as a model I took it. I was really put into a lot of different rooms and a lot of different doors opened for me after that . I also have done short commercials and reality TV. My experiences stepping into reality tv, was very eye-opening, especially seeing how black women were often portrayed in a negative light through media .I realized the need for a positive change in the industry. In reality TV, I witnessed producers creating drama rather than showcasing reality. This was a turning point for Me. It sparked the idea for WeStream Entertainment – a platform to positively represent African-Americans and provide authentic content. My journey through modeling and reality TV exposed me to industry flaws, sparking my mission. Also, The challenge of continuing without my initial business partner tested my dedication, but my passion and commitment led me to push forward and achieve significant milestones. Looking ahead,I aim to make WeStream a force for positive social change, emphasizing authenticity, support , and community building.

Mia’, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m originally from Memphis, Tennessee, a city with a vibrant culture but also has its challenges. My interest in modeling and reality TV sparked my entry into the entertainment industry. These experiences opened my eyes to the need for authentic representation and storytelling, leading me to establish WeStream Entertainment. WeStream provides a platform for diverse, authentic content that breaks away from traditional media narratives. We focus on representing African-American voices and stories in a genuine way, offering both entertainment and a new perspective to our audience. Our goal at WeStream is to address the lack of proper representation in the media. We strive to create and distribute content that showcases the true diversity of experiences and stories within the African-American community.
What sets WeStream apart is our commitment to authenticity and positive representation. Our background and understanding of the industry’s shortcomings empower us to create a platform that not only entertains but also educates and inspires.
A moment that stands out for me was overcoming the challenge of continuing WeStream when my business partner had to leave. It was a testament to my dedication and passion for this venture, and it solidified my resolve to succeed.
To our potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that WeStream is more than just a streaming service. It’s a movement towards change, a platform for untold stories, and a space where everyone can see a reflection of their true selves. We’re committed to authenticity, diversity, and positive representation.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The initial capital for WeStream Entertainment largely came from donations, with significant support from family and friends. I actively networked at various events to share my vision, which helped in gathering resources. Initially, I explored loans but then shifted to applying for grants, which proved to be a successful strategy, as I was awarded my first grant. This journey of funding was not just about money; it was about building a community that believed in and supported my vision.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My entrepreneurial journey has involved significant pivots, each shaping my path. I transitioned from running a successful fitness and apparel business, which combined my passion for fitness , self care & health, to launching WeStream Entertainment. This pivot was driven by my deepening passion for media and representation. Another major turning point was when my business partner left, and I had to take charge of WeStream on my own. These experiences taught me adaptability, resilience, and the importance of staying true to my passions.
