Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mia Moceri. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Mia, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I made in terms of time was definitely deciding to move across the country from my small town in Michigan to attend Makeup Designory in Burbank, CA. Before attending MUD, I already considered myself a makeup artist. I started practicing makeup on myself at a young age, creating wild, colorful glam looks, horrifying SPFX designs, and even recreating looks I’d seen online. I began advertising my services to my high school peers, and before I knew it, I was the go-to makeup artist for homecomings and prom.
After graduating, I talked myself out of pursuing a career in makeup full-time due to the pressure to go to college and get a “real job.” I decided that if I wanted any type of stability in the future, I would at least need to get a license. I enrolled in esthetician school in 2022, and looking back, that was also a very smart decision. Without that license, I wouldn’t be able to work where I do now—at the very school I once attended, Makeup Designory.
After esthetician school, I worked at a salon doing event makeup (which required a license), and briefly with a bridal company. I finally made the big decision to go to MUD when one night I realized the only thing holding me back from chasing my dreams of being a full-time freelance makeup artist for TV/film, photo shoots, red carpets, and more—was myself and my fears.
Sitting here writing this now, having graduated from the Master Makeup Artist program at MUD, I can wholeheartedly say it was worth it, and moving to LA has changed my life for the better. MUD taught me so much crucial information that’s invaluable in this career path. I am incredibly grateful for my parents’ support in this endeavor, and most importantly, for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for His continued faithfulness to me. I couldn’t have done this with them.

Mia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mia Moceri. I’m a licensed esthetician and a professional makeup artist with a passion for helping people look and feel their best. As an esthetician, I offer a variety of skincare services including facials, LED light therapy, microdermabrasion, microcurrent treatments, and more. I earned my license in 2022, which laid the foundation for attending the Master Program at Makeup Designory (MUD) in 2024.
As a certified freelance makeup artist, I create looks for TV/film, red carpets, photoshoots, campaigns, weddings and events, male grooming, and SPFX. What sets me apart is my unique combination of professional training at MUD and my background in esthetics, which allows me to focus not only on artistry but also on skin health. I’m known for being versatile—from soft glam and bridal to bold editorial and special effects—and I’m committed to providing personalized, professional experiences for every client.
One of my proudest achievements so far has been securing representation with an agent. It’s a dream turned reality and a true reflection of the dedication, persistence, and growth I’ve poured into this career.
More than anything, I want people to know that makeup isn’t just my job—it’s my calling. I believe God gave me this gift to help others feel confident, seen, and beautiful in their own skin. This journey hasn’t always been easy, but every step has brought me closer to doing what I love full-time. When you sit in my chair, it’s not just about the makeup—it’s about creating a space where you feel valued, heard, and uplifted.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding parts of being an artist and creative is that the work truly doesn’t feel like work..it brings me joy. There’s something so fulfilling about doing what I love every day and getting lost in the process of creating. Seeing a client light up when they look in the mirror, knowing I played a small part in helping them feel confident and beautiful—that’s what makes it all worth it. It’s not just about the makeup; it’s about the connection, the transformation, and the shared energy in those moments. That’s what fuels my passion and keeps me inspired.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Getting saved and growing in my relationship with God has completely transformed how I approach both my work and my life. It’s shifted my perspective from striving in my own strength to trusting in His timing, His provision, and His purpose for my journey. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught up in hustle culture or compare yourself to others, but my faith keeps me grounded. I now make decisions not just based on profit or pressure, but through prayer, peace, and purpose.
God has taught me to lead with integrity, to serve others well, and to pursue excellence..not for recognition, but as an act of worship. I’ve learned to let go of fear and control, and instead walk in boldness and obedience, knowing that He’s the one opening doors I could never force open on my own. My relationship with Him gives me clarity, resilience, and a deeper “why” behind everything I do. It’s not just about success anymore…it’s about impact, purpose, and using my gifts to glorify Him and serve others with love.
