Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mia Logan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mia, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I couldn’t get a handle on my name at first. I continued to change it but I never gained a spark from it. One night, I was in my kitchen, doing my sisters nails and my mom yelled out… go to bed!. I couldn’t go to sleep because I trained myself to watch over my household throughout the night to protect my children. So as I continue doing my sisters nails, I explain to her how unhappy I was with my name at that time. We began to put our ideas out in the air and as she said; you should be nails at midnight. I said; oh nooo, our brother always says the devil plays after midnight and I wanted to belong to my clients, be here for them when in need. Then, all of a sudden, I yelled out YOURNAILSAFTERDARK. It sparked, It clicked, I was soooo happy with it and I’ve always been that NailTech available when other shops are closed!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am (YourNailsAfterDark)! Majority of my days I do nails after normal business hours, for all those looking for a salon that is opened when other salons are closed. I’ve been doing nails now for 4 years. I’m licensed in 2 states, Detroit and Arizona. I originally went to school to become a nurse but after I realized I couldn’t maintain contact with patients once a relationship had been built, my feelings were actually hurt. I just wanted to make people feel good about themselves. In the Nail industry be it sick or not since sick doesn’t have a look, when a person walks into my salon, that feeling of gratitude or expression given, that connection made doesn’t have to be broken. I absolutely love what I do! Most of all I love my clients
Why nails? I honestly couldn’t tell you why I chose nails over anything else. I always say: the makeup has to come off, the hair doesn’t last as long, the clothes must be changed daily but when you’re down and out you can look at your hands and still feel good about the fact that you did something for you to feel beautiful!
I never thought I would reach this point in my life to owning my own business. Honestly all I wanted to do was help others feel beautiful and pay my $75 booth rent, lol:). It wasn’t in the plans of how I saw it at all! Now I see that plan is much bigger than me and always has been. There’s been a shift… I’m in school to become a nail educator now. There’s been something missing in the beauty industry for a long time, especially when it comes to the nail industry. My intention is to become licensed in all areas showing people that by abiding the laws of state boards regulations, it is necessary. That’s how I can lead by example, especially since I have 3 daughters watching me. Not only my daughter’s but the world and whomever it may be needs to understand the severity of getting licensed as an ( Instructor ) or in the field of their choice.
The Nail Therapy I provide are Manicures, Nail Extensions, Designs, Pedicures, along with education. Knowledge is key! Majority of the products I use while providing these services, I highly value is Valentino Beauty Pure. Not because I value being apart of the team but because I value having the capability to customize and blend colors that will perfectly match my clients undertones oh so smoothly at any given moment. Valentino works for my goals when I’m creating a bond with my clients that in turn become family. Valentino for me isn’t just a brand it’s apart of my daily lifestyle. If it isn’t broken, why fix it?
Providing nail therapy is one of the ways I help each person make the necessary adjustment to their problems. If a client comes in and is dealing with some things within their lifestyle be it their nails, toes or something more, I do my best to help them find the beauty within to adjust it, where we together see fit. It’s my duty to bring out the best in all these beauties that trust me and honestly they help bring out the best in me.
What set’s me apart from other’s, is my relationship with my Heavenly Father Jehovah… I am where I am today because of how I’ve learned to serve him. With being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses as a Christian, I had to learn humility, empathy, sympathy, gratitude, love, kindness and so much more. Having learned these qualities, it has allowed me to become a better human being over all. Which has allowed me to be the best nail therapist, nail friend, nail manicurist I can be. I must be me at all times no matter what but with each person that walks through the door, I am who they need me to be for each situation. I cry in happiness when they’re happy, I shed tears in moments when they’re hurting or in pain. I hold their hands when they feel suffering and I’m a big hugger too. We all need a hug in these different yet difficult times.
I am most proud of not giving up and I want each person to know that there is light at the end of hardship, pain, struggle, betrayal, toxicity, fleshly desires, You can get up, you can make it out, you can keep praying and Jehovah will hear your cry for help even in times you don’t believe you’re worthy. You can do anything you put your mind to. Yes,I was hurt so badly, yes, I was apart of abuse on every level. Even when I didn’t see or desire the help, I was hurting. As I write this, I can say this to you all… Jehovah allowed me to find Nails and nails saved my life. Nails allowed me to find ways to makes others happy the right way and this is honestly just a tool to help me, to help others, in ways I never could imagine. I don’t count on quality and quantity in numbers, oh no! I count on the quantity of people I treat with quality by loving what I do the right way. So don’t ever give up!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clientele regularly via phone calls or text message because it’s necessary for them to know I appreciate them and their loyalty for trusting me.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
My journey has been rough but I’ve learned not to give up throughout all the obstacles and to stop doubting myself so much. We are always our own worse critics. It pays to take chances and you will never know if you don’t try!
