We were lucky to catch up with Mia Liu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I recently donated a gourmet dinner party package to support a non-profit organization in Portland that organizes choral ensembles for children and adults. The winning bidder was a parent who wanted to have a gourmet dining experience at their house party.
We began by discussing their culinary preferences, which centered around a love for seasonal, local farm produce and Asian flavors. Then I crafted a bespoke menu for them featuring roasted wild foraged mushrooms, colorful seasonal vegetables, Chinese five-spice sous vide wild salmon, and Thai-spiced butternut squash soup, ensuring that the vegan guests have plenty of dishes they can enjoy with the rest of the party.
The guests were amazed at every dish, describing the salmon as the best they’d ever eaten. And of course, the host was extremely happy with the memorable food and the joy it brought their guests.
This was a perfect example of what I aim to create with my dinner party services: exceptionally nourishing and delicious food that bring people together.


Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I never thought I’d end up becoming a personal chef. It started with an unconventional journey: I traveled the world playing poker professionally for 6 years. It was a quest for peak mental and physical performance that led me to focus on optimizing my diet to make sure I perform and feel my best. I also fell in love with a diverse range of spices, flavors, and culinary techniques from around the world.
Unfortunately, so much of the commercial cooking out there revolves around the excessive use of oil, salt, and sugar to make food addictive at the expense of people’s well-being. In additional, a lot of common dishes are really survival food that’s not optimized for health or taste. Not to mention the widely available ultra-processed foods out there that are contributing to obesity and other long-term health issues.
That’s why I started creating my own recipes using a diverse range of organic, nutrient-dense seasonal ingredients and superfoods, along with modern cooking techniques, to elevate healthy dining beyond the typical salads and veggie sticks. The dishes I create are both scrumptious and packed with nutrients, far beyond what you’d typically find at home or in most restaurants. The result? Consistently wowing clients with food that taste incredible AND help them feel great.
WildSpice Gourmet Creation is the business I created in Portland, OR offering a comprehensive in-home personal chef service for parties and events, weekly meal prep, and private cooking classes. We take care of all the steps from custom menu planning according to clients’ culinary desires and dietary needs, to sourcing organic and local premium quality ingredients that are packed with nutrients and flavor, to serving clients and their guests an exceptional culinary experience. The name reflects my passion for bringing an exciting experience with every meal, featuring bold spices and herbs from around the globe that transform nutritious ingredients into memory culinary adventures.
My clients are busy professionals and high performers who want to be healthy, fit, and sexy without spending their valuable time cooking. Often times, they have additional dietary requirements like gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, or low-sodium; or they might want to lose weight or have health conditions they want to heal. Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve always embraced change and growth, whether it’s from my graduate studies in political science, to playing poker professionally, and then starting several businesses. Then, everything clicked when I stepped up to cater a party for a group I’m a part of. That’s when I realized my true passion is in creating amazing and nourishing culinary experiences.
Embracing this new path, I’ve poured my diverse skills and countless hours into becoming a personal chef. Now, I get to share my innovative superfood dishes and my love for creating healthy food with a rapidly expanding clientele.
